The bB in Japan deffinately came in AWD. In fact, if you look for parts on yahoo.jp, you find them listed for the AWD. The exhaust actually exits on the opposite side on the AWD so you have to be carefull ordering JDM exhaust. I just ordered a Power Enterprise exhaust from Japan and had to specify FWD. Yahoo.jp sometimes has the drivelines for the AWD for sale, but I can't imagine the cost of shipping a tranny, shafts and rear end over here.

But I too have pondered the possibility of AWD. Thought about the second motor like that Tiberon. Or just doing an MR2 swap in the rear like the Yaris in Redline. That things bad ___. Just yesterday I was thinking a crossbreed using the transverse SR20DET out of the JDM AWD Nissan Sentra. That'd be 220hp AWD the way it sits, and will easily do 300AWHP with a few bolt ons and tuning. Plus that motor and AWD tranny is readily available on Ebay. You would just need to source a rear end assembly and have a custom drive shaft made.

i was actualy just thinking about searching the japanese search engines haha.

about that SR20DET though, i've found first hand that it wouldn't have that kind of power stock, specialy on a awd settup. the wheels would see maybe 160whp and maybe 110-120wlbs and thats based on a 240's power with the most powerful black top SR installed.

what i was thinking was throwing in a completely built 1ZZFE with a procharger supercharged system on it for REALLY nice power *yes it'll fit, engine bay hood needs some modification with a small hump on one side for clearence with the procharger*. then i was going to use the C59 OR use a C60 for the 2ZZ and change out the final drive gear with a longer one, making gears 1 through 5 the same as th sock C50 the xB comes with while gear 6 becomes a wonderful high end speed gear while being a GREAT economy gear aswell.

and based off Procharger's supercharger kits on simular sized engines *Honda's B16, B18, B20 and K20A(1-Z4)* you can get about 350-400whp from 1.8L engines off the kit straight off of pump gas *prochargers version of pump gas is 91 octane*. they have one hell of a turbine useable for the 1.6L-2.0L engine range, the C1. capable of 24psi / 1000cfm and average maximum power around 675hp. settup though is custom but it's doeable and freakin awesome! i was looking around some corolla forums and found that some people have already done this on the 1ZZ and made insane power with ease on a built engine and it doesn't take much with it either. average power that i've see with only 10psi has been around 300-400whp depending on the engine and settup. i don't know about you, but that is perfect for me, plus AWD system... *caugh caugh* uh... Giggidy Giggidy Giggidy Goooo

I was also considering an AWD setup for my XA. The ist and the Bb are indeed available with AWD in Japan but it is an option for a 1.3L not the 1nz-fe 1.5 that we have here in the states. Also another problem is that the AWD in only available in automatic trans which kinda puts a damper on things if you are looking for power. Even if you wanted to try and do all that the whole rear end will have to be modified. So I haven't found any good set-ups yet.

from what i've found about the AWD systems for the JBM models, the can-not fit our USDM models. there IS a small diffrence.... the left hand / right hand drive situation. the entire system is settup backwords from what's needed.

a total custom but very possible and probably the best way to go idea would be using the AWD system from the Matrix AWD models. from what i'm told, even though it's only available on autos, they will bolt to manuals aswell. it's just a mater of cutting it all down in size to fit the xB.

i've thought about doing a trade for the bB but the interior SUCKS in them... it's really plain from what i last say and it really puts me off on the idea.

can't convert a USDM xB or xA to use the AWD from the JDM models. from what i've been told, the AWD from the JDM models are completely diffrent then what we would expect. Found out from Island MotorSport's Scion xB and xA specialist that he him self has been trying to convert his xB to AWD and figured that the JDM would fit. he got the drivesystem and everything and when he went to install and mod, found that there was no way it would fit. the UDSM models DO have the drive shaft line all the way back for a AWD system, but the chassis does have a small diffrence that makes it impossible to simply install and it would require ALOT of cutting, reforming and reinforcing to put the JDM AWD in there which would end up worthless being it's not built strong enough to handle much power.

the Matrix XR AWD on the other hand can be cut down to size to fit the xB. you would need the rear end suspension from the xR in order to do so which would also mean that you would probably have to do some custom work on the rear strut towers to fit the new struts and springs IF the suspension wont fit like the xB's stock does. another idea is that you could put the drivetrain in and then modify it to house the xB's original suspension OR your aftermarket suspension if you had it already.

Definetly something you would want to use a secondary xB or xA thats been salvaged as your test subject for the install. but it IS possible and if you can't do it your self well then from what i'm told by Drife Shaft Shop *if you've got an engine and tranny in there and supply us with the drivetrain, we'll make it fit*. they also told me that "Make it fit" means, getting it in there reliably, clean and just about stock looking without any change if hardly any change at all to the body of the xB.

and one last cool thing... being that th Matrix XR AWD is a 5 lug hub system, you have new wheel options and for your Sportmax 002 guys out there, Sportmax DOES have a 5 lug version of thier 002's in 16 and 18 from what i was last told. LONG LIVE DISHED OLDSCHOOL WHEELS AND WIDER VEHICLE WHEEL TRACK!

do know though, the rear end would probably need some reinforcement. by the looks of things though, an interior roll cage simular to Firmware's cage in thier images with an extension piece from the rear seat belt points to the rear strut tower points would suffice with maybe a cross point from side to side. TRD's rear frame brace at this point may become useless being theres a completely diffrent suspension and drivetrain system.

Default bB awd models of 2001 (awd xB, awd bB, all wheel drive)

I found the model names of the AWD bB. http://www.cars-directory.net/specs/toyota/bb/2001_8/. nvm the prices. try a site like this http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car...yota/bb/?st=12. exporters try to get these older cars out of Japan because they literally dont have any more room on their roads. help um out and convert your xB to AWD. OR be sly and reverse thru the drive-thru with a right hand drive bB. i drive a little Japanese Kei truck (Subaru Sambar) around in my home town since my dad got it registered/ tagged/ insured (something he did involved takin a trip to wildlife and fisheries but ill ask and post again). insurance is a dream. ALSO. i am thinking yall who are truly interested in conversions should import an AWD bB and make it left hand drive with interior from the xB.

Default I was thinking...

I have a 2008 xB and was wanting to do a AWD swap what do you guys think of swapping the drive train from a AWD Matrix into it what kinda work would be involved with that the wheel base?

Is the same the Matrix had a bigger hp motor and it should be close, Right????
