Actually, I'll lay odds that you did exactly what I did and many others, too.

Were you trying to adjust the tension of the alternator belt by using a crow bar and pushing off the engine block and alternator?

I know the directions warn specifically against doing this - but it really isn't clear what they are asking you to do (or not do) - until you do it - and it's too late.

Expensive lesson for me since I couldn't shop for mail order prices - had to go to the dealer because I needed the car right away.

If you did not do it this way - I guess I just embarrassed myself even more than you!!!!!

 

yea thats what i did basically. i was replacing my belt. i dint go through the dealer though(way too expensive!) i just did it myself. jsut got the part in the mail yesturday actually. all props to xB crew.

 

something is still up with the actuator circuit.. check the harness and especially the pins in the connectors for good contact.. did you relearn? I did, but never tried it not doing that, not sure if it makes a difference..

 

PadillaXA...so how did this turn out? I broke mine doing the same thing (changing the belts).

Thanks. I just ordered it. Once replace it will I need to reset the error code (p0010) or will it reset itself? I usually just use the code reader at Auto.Zone.

 

it should erase itself immediately but if not, you can reset your ecu instead of going to a car shop if u dont own a code reader. mine was was weird and the light turned itself off and on for about a month then eventually stopped for good. make sure when you first put the part in to let the car idle for about 5-10min so the ecu can read it and relearn(i didnt do this which might explain the light for so long).

Alright part came in and put it in within 10min. No check engine light! Running smooth, hope my gas mileage comes back now.

 

yea me too. my gas mileage has never really been the same tho. tell me if you have any better results. ive done mad tuning, replacing other worn parts, changing all my fluids, and i really only got bout 5mpg back compared to before i replaced the actuator. its really ticking me. i cant think of anything else to do!

 

Okay I got that P0010 diagnosis on my car. They tried selling me the SENSOR but I got on here and learned that was a mistake... You guys are SURE that the actuator is the same as the camshaft timing oil control valve? Because Toyota is telling me differently and wants me to buy a $265 part!!! I just want to make sure. I've also been told that if either of those were out, my car wouldn't move. Someday I'll learn more about cars...

 

I cant remember but it was only an $85 dollar part and easy to install yourself. The part is right next to your serpentine belts and gets broken when they are replaced because the mechanic does it wrong and leverages on the part as a fulcrum point.

 

that price is way too much. just check the part thats pictured and circled on page one of this forum and check yours. if its broken just click the link above, its real cheap and easy. even if that ends up not being the specific part broken do a lil research to find the exact part and buy it yourself. those dealer mechanics are sharks! they wanted 300 bux to replace the part i did for a lil under 90dollars.

Great info here. I too broken the actuator when I was tightening the alternator belt. I heard a crack but was hoping things would be okay. I started the box up and didn't get any cell's so I thought I licked out. Turns out the next day s my daughter drove to school, the cel, vsc and trac off lite up. Ran the cel at O'Reillys and got the p0010. The guy had no clue what it was or what I needed to fix this. I did a little searching and found this thread. Ordered the actuator from Amazon and should have it fixed next week. Thanks Scionlife
