Default Car won't shift past 2nd gear (automatic)

I'm not sure what the heck is wrong!!! My speedometer isn't working, but the gas and tach all work. The car goes in park, reverse, neutral, drive, 2nd, Low fine. But when I get on the highway it won't shift passed 2nd gear. I had it all the way up to 4,500 rpm and it still wouldn't shift.

I have an ABS light, brake light and check engine light on for some reason also.

What could be the problem? The transmission or what? Because the speedo isn't working either.

I unhooked the battery for about 10 mins, the check engine light went out, but the abs and brake light stayed. Well as soon as I got on the road and went probably 15mph the check engine light came back on, speed still doesn't work.

It's the VSS P0500 is the code I found out today..

what are some options I can try? I looked at all fuses, underdash and under hood and everything is okay.

Check all your tires air pressure and the speed sensors in the front wheels as well as the transmission and brake fluid levels. Also check for loose engine hoses into the throttle body and intake maifold that go to the transmission.

I know it's the VSS, I got the code at autozone for P0500.

I don't understand why? I don't know where exactly I need to look. While the car has been parked waiting for my struts. I installed the RKE scion kit, and the bazooka sub. that's it.

what do you mean if my car is changing gears? It only changes 1st and 2nd and won't go beyond that, speedo doesn't work, abs and brake lights on and engine light.

i already know the code is p0500 if it was nything else it'd give another code i'd think.

changing gears, as in going 1st to 2nd and so on, ur saying its not going past 2nd so it means its a tranny problem, i had the same problem with a volvo i had awhile back and it was my transmission

I have the stock tires on it right now before I took it to get aligned, they are all 28/30 so they aren't low. The fluid levels are fine.

the code may be telling the trans not to shift past 2nd.

heres a crazy question...

When you replaced the front struts, did you pinch the ABS lines, or some how disconnect them?

No, i'm quite sure of it, because they were clear and out of the way. All I had to do was put the struts in and then mount the wires to the struts.

I'm hoping the code is telling the trans not to shift.

Okay, thtats exactly what I need to know. hopefully maybe something is unhooked or whatever? autozone/napa didn't have a speed sensor. I don't know why it'd go bad. Wonder where the speed sensor is exactly?
