Car won't shift past 2nd gear (automatic)

I alreayd said I knew what it was!! But i'm now looking how to fix it myself, or if a wire is lose!

There are speed sensors in the wheels to control the ABS that is how it figures out when a wheel is slipping or skidding. There is also a sensor in the transmission and according to the scan code lookup . . .
P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Circuit Malfunction
Something is not working so check for wires that connect to the transmission and I would guess that they would be on the top somewhere under the air box . . . of course where you can't see them easily. You should search for the location online so you know where to look.

I'm trying to find the location, I can't find much info out. I've been searching all monring after comming back from autozone. My car is useless until I figure this out.

Yea, I suppose. If that's whats wrong. I was hoping it was a wire for the VSS not connected fully or something.

I called the dealer to look up the Vehicle speed sensor. He says it's called " transmission revolution sensor" or revolution speed sensor. It's 150$ ish.
He's going to print out a diagram where it's located. I'm going to go pick it up. But i don't see that being much help unless I replace the sensor and see if that takes care of it.

I got the printout the part number is: 89413b
It's on top of the transmission, but I'm not sure if thats exactly the problem or not?

I unhooked that sensor and it still does the same thing... More than likely for sure its the sensor.

Next thing to do is to shop around for it and try to get a lower price. Junk yard would be a possibility since they are not something that is supposed to wear out so a new one or a used one should still work the same.

I went and ordered one from the dealer. I got employee discount price of 85$
It'll be here Friday. Ugh, but right now the car is getting aligned. The place I get it aligned is less than a mile fr om my house and car drives fine under 20mph, but otherwise it doesn't do highway.

Car is finished being aligned. I'm in a better mood, i've been dreading having to get it done again. But the guy that aligns my car is the only person I'd trust near my car, much less doing any work on it. I gave him 20$ tip because he does it right and is very careful!
The part will be in Friday morning.

the speed sensor would only affect the trans mission...

I had read somewhere that it affects alot of things. It won't let the cooling fan kick on and other random things. I don't know what the heck has happened to my car as it sat in the garage. Oh well, I'll get it worked out.

Yeah I would not be surprised if the A/C would not work with a malfunction like that - it relates to the engine check light and extra load on the engine would probably by avoided automatically thus no A/C.

That's what I was thinking. It seems to affect alot about the car. I'll post back Friday and let every know if this fixes all the problems. I hope it does.
