I don't think the Injen CAI was tested in the Intake Shootout. The hp gains at a particular RPM aren't as important as the performance it provides throughout the band.

The underhood conditions change. When you're rolling down the freeway you're getting plenty of airflow, but how about when you come to a stop light and your sitting there idling, and the heat is rising and the air isn't flowing thru and your radiator is pouring out heat right next to your intake inlet. Until you get going, you're going to be getting some hot air. My filter is only a hand's length away from the front corner of the car. ALL the engine heat is above and to the side of it. So I wouldn't call it a waste of money. I would like to drive a similar car with the SRI to see if there's much difference.

I don't know if these things make a difference in reality, but in theory, it works for me...

went in from the bottom too... it kept getting stuck... then at one point it got stuck and we couldn't pull it back out (guiding it from the top AND bottom).... so we unbolted the battery and all of a sudden everything was so easy. I don't know why they didn't at least say that doing so would ease the install greatly.

I installed the K&N Typhoon last week. The instructions that were provided were very, very easy to understand. Be sure to have the right tools before beginning and you will be done in about an hour, maybe 1.5 hours

While I don't like the idea of water splashing up into the filter, that remote possibility is far outweighed by the fact that I am stuck in traffic daily. A short ram intake would, without a doubt, draw in hot air. A CAI is drawing the air from the bottom of the car, which will always be colder in any circumstance.

Hardest part of the Typhoon install is getting the filter on, since you're lying on the ground, arms extended upward, with filter in one hand and screwdriver in another.

OK seriously considering the Injen SR, however, I am not the most learned person when it comes to engines. What do I have to do to install it, I know i have to take the filter box out, and some other stuff but can someone give me detailed instructions before i buy it to see if I have the mindset and the guts to install it myself. Thanks a bunch

It's for the K&N but pretty close to the same. It's a piece of cake, especially the short ram. I hear that the first thing you should do is loosen the battery clamp and slide the battery as far back and to the outside as it will go. This will help give you the room you need in there.

Hi,

I have driven in major traffic in my day, and in my opinion, an intake too low to the road is gonna draw up heat from the roadway itself; granted it should be cooler than air being heated from a car engine, but down here in south florida, in the summer the roads get plenty hot, just step on one in barefeet.

I am thinking of a CAI, but I am not sure if all-in-all the tradeoffs are worth the out-of-pocket cash, and increases in engine noise vs gain(s) in power and MPG's....

Any thoughts ??
