Engine swap???
Wasssup peoples!!! This is my fist post in this forum, I actually DON'T own a Scion..... yet. I have a 2002 VW GTI thats in the shop (fender bender) and I'll be trading it in for possibly an XA. I was just curiuos, has anybody swapped in a larger Toyota motor into their XA or XB?? I want to race my Scion, but Im affraid the tiny 1.5 Echo motor won't be able to put down the ponies.....

my understanding is the 1.8L from the Celica Gt is a bolt in and there are some awesome turbo kits out there for it

I would love to build up the engine.... but who makes farged (stronger) internals for the Toyota 1.5L??? As far as how fast..... well fast enough to make someone sorry for making fun of my tiny XA!! Yes, I want to drag race.... and I want it to be faster than my Vw GTi (14.8sec in 1/4mile (stock turbo).

what ever happened to that turbo echo that did 7s on the 1/4 mi.

With the right amount of money, and mods, anything is possible. But the likely hood of you reaching 13's in the quarter is slim. There is only so much the 1nz block can take. Especially if you also want a daily driver.
Best start: Build internals, s/c or t/c, bore pistons (slightly), stroker kit, ECU upgrade, performance spark plugs, weight reduction (CF included), drop center of gravity, intercooler, possible CAM upgrade if you really have deep pockets. Power enterprises (so rumor has it) is coming out with a vvt-i controller, much like the vtec controller for honda. If true, that would be a GREAT investment. I'd recommend a s/c over t/c simply because of redline issues. My own opinion, and experiences..Turbos work slightly better with higher-revving motors. Supercharger would be great, especially if the P.E controller comes out! Good luck. |
Any v6 or v8 will fit in tha backseat with some work and money. You bought the wrong car if you are looking for HP and 150 MPH. Just enjoy the fun and the great gas mi.

only fun comes from speed.

if you could build the motor to boost 12psi it would go zoom.

If you are used to a turbo GTI, you are going to be sorely disappointed in even a heavily modified xA or xB dude. You might want to rethink that. Maybe a tC would be a better choice for you?
|
the tc is like 800 lbs more than the xb/xa if i remember right. its not much quicker, a turbo xa with a mildly built motor will stomp all over GSR's and celica GTS's etc etc

Heres a thought....
Pop out the 1NZ-FE and C150 transmission and pop in the Engine from a Cooper S with its 6-speed :) |
