if you take off the power steering you will get into a wreck. It will free up your ability to get in an acccident too. They have some lightweight pulleys you can install, but I wouldn't get it b/c you have to mess with the belt.

Maybe he just wants to drag race, so steering is not as much of a problem. Power steering is not a option or upgrade provided by Toyota. Without power steering you need Hercules arms to turn the wheel

Ive seen people take out the ac compressor and put on a shorter belt on other cars before. But come on, we only have a 1.5 pumping out "105" hp. Go turbo first and then worry about freeing up additional power.

i race mmy homies on the weekend but im trin the free horse power route right now. i only got a fujita intake and it lags uphills bad so maybe removeing these power ssuckers and dead weight off may help. i plan on getting a greddy supercharger in the future, if i did remove these would the boost increase due to no a/cand short belt?

Save your money and buy the 08...its got more power. Besides....these things werent designed for racing....if you wanted pwer/to race you shoulda bought something else.

08 has bigger motor (same as tC). And the TRD supercharger is going to be a factory option. More power and you can stay cool!

The closest thing that I have seen to a price was on the rules page of a contest listing the grand prize as a 2008 xB with a MSRP of $18,000. But that seams just too high

i saw it in person and it wasn't that much bigger. but the bigger engine should cost about $1k more, so it should be about $15.5k.

Yes it will free up power, it will cause a belt problem, that you will have to solve yourself with a few attempts at possible replacements, until one fits right.

all he needs to do is just find a belt that fits the crank, water pump (it still needs to flow in the correct direction) and the alt

and find a manual steering rack shouldn't be too hard to do...

the ac in our cars uses a "smart" electric clutch that gives you more power when under hard accel

At wide open throttle, the a/c compressor clutch is automatically disengaged by the ecm, so theres no loss there, and as long as the a/c is off, there is relatively no power loss just freewheeling the pulley. Removing the power steering is just asking for trouble with a fwd car, not to mention the small amount of HP you would free up would be almost un-noticable.

I TOOK OFF THE BELT AND INSTANTLLY NOTICED AN INCREASE IN POWER UP HILL THE CAR ALSO HAS BETTER THROTTLE RESPONSE. WHY WOULD IT CAUSE TROUBLE IN A FWD?
