Default Fuel Rail Pressure

I hooked up a fuel pressure gauge on my rail. It reads about 43 PSI when the car is idling. However, pressure drops to zero after the car has been sitting in the garage for 8 or more hours. Is it normal on a return-less fuel line for pressure to drop? I've been having some hard starts with my boosted xA recently and initially thought it might have been my IAC coil going bad... but now I'm wondering if having no pressure at the rail might be causing the hard starts.....

Standard running fuel pressure: 44 to 50psi
Pressure 5 minutes after shut-off: 21psi
That's all i could see in the repair manual.

I think that's pretty normal. If I recall the Perrin rail install directions said to let the car sit for 30 minutes after power is off to let the pressure drop prior to removing the rail. Try turning the car to ON for the fuel pump to activate for a few seconds before starting it.

everything i could find in the service manual references running psi only. nothing about what psi is after the car has been sitting for hours. it is zero when i start it up in the morning. turning the key to the on position doesn't start up the fuel pump.

It is normal for the fuel pressure to drop after the car has been turned off for a while. That's why the fuel pump primes the fuel system just before the motor is turned over. When you turn the key to II position you're essentially priming the fuel system.
