That is a great question fuzz, we need some of the big guns here at SL to chime in, I wish I had a better understanding of the whole I/H/E thing as it relates to better gas mileage and not just horsepower and cool sounding exhaust.

I cut up the bottom of the intake box to allow lots of warm air like the blitz.

short ram! I don't claim to be an engine expert but I would think it wouldn't be good for an engine to not have an air filter. I don't want crap getting in there!

yeah, were not taking out the filter, just the snorkle here.... but im not sure if the short ram will add anything or change anything? i have the money to get it, but if i dont really need to then why bother?

so the question remains.... does a short ram/cai give anything better then just going snorkle-less? we await an answer...

Its funny that after allllll these posts, people STILL think removing the snorkle means no filter!
C'mon, folks, R-E-A-D!

Eventually Im gonna get weapon-r header (4-2-1) with 2" piping to the stock muffler, for better airflow...for the intake Im just going to leave the snorkle off unless I learn that an intake will work better than no snorkle.

If you post that you have the money for a <$100 part, then you probably should not.

If you decide to buy one anyway, be careful since there is a knock off sold with a K&N filter that does not work.

Then you can drive without the snorkel and see how it works. You will have better air flow and still have filtering, and you can see if it works better than stock. Nothing will happen to your engine because it still has the stock air filter that will prevent any nasty stuff from getting into the engine, but you should have better air flow because all that snorkel stuff will be out of the way. Give it a shot and see what happens.

That's what I'm doing starting with tomorrow's commute, and we can compare notes after a few day's worth of driving . . . . .

I think he already took off the snorkel. From what I gather he is wondering if the cai/short ram is going to make more of a difference than just removing the snorkel. I could be wrong but that is what I gather from this thread and the other one he posted about debadging it and removing the snorkel. I have no idea if the cai/short ram will make a big difference compared to just removing the snorkel.

night has the idea! my snorkle is resting in my basement, not attached to my car. i love it off, but my question is as night shadows said, will it make a difference to add a short ram... i would think a K&N air filter will help as well, so if i dont get a ram/cai then im still getting the air filter, but does adding a ram/cai give any bonus, or is the bonus just removing the snorkle in the first place!

There probably is a difference there, but I'm just fine with no snorkel and the drop-in. I don't want to take a risk with a knock-off.

I'd recommend the K&N drop-in, definitely a difference after installing it with acceleration, and many people report better mileage too...

Has anybody removed the tube in the lid of the air box?
Or is this needed to center the air going to the MAS?

ive been going through this same topic in my head. ive been thinking about taking a pic of the blitz intake to work and seeing if my friend in the fab area could make something with all the metal and mesh the have back there. if he can then ill just get an airhog or k&n drop-in filter. i dont see anything about the blitz intake that makes it cost that much. maybe we could make some and sell a few on SL. (if it works)

OK. After reading several threads where snorkel removal was discussed - I did it!
Snorkel now gone (in the garage with the bolt taped in place for future needs), ECU reset, and ready to try when I run out for a bit later. I will idle for a few minutes to make the ECU happy first.
