Default lack of backpressure causes loss of low rpm power?

not according to this dyno found in the gallery section of scionlife.

muffler removed entirely

low rpm power looks to be the same

that true, with our vehicles. Less back pressure will give you more power for a short run, but then after that no more power! For a long run, you need a special exhaust set-up for the right back pressure. :D

what do you mean short run?

that car made more power all the way till redline.

the 'right' backpressure is in almost all cases zero.

the only time backpressure from the exauhst is useful is on cars with agressive non varaible timing cams with lots of overlap.

the scion's engine has zero overlap in low velocity conditions.
