melted shifter cable/linkage
im sure this has happened to others out there. Could someone please tell me where to get a new shifter cable. Ive called over 15 junkers and no one has these cables. BTW, would the ones off a echo or yaris work. I think they would be the same part, but im not sure.
Toyota auto parts are trying to shaft me $500 for both cables.

actually after close inspection it didn't melt, it snapped. I took the cable apart just to find that the inner most cable snapped in 2 different points. This has more to do with fatigue then heat, at least i think.
I feel your pain, it's happend to me twice. I bought them at the dealership which I work at. Did both cables break? You can buy the one that broke instead of both for about $200 (each cable). If all else fails PM me and I'll try to help you out.
BTW the part numbers are; (for my '04 xB built in Dec. '03)
-33820B; PN# 33820-52022 - CABLE ASSY, TRANSMISSION CONTROL
-33821; PN# 33821-52022 - CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHIFT (FOR FLOOR SHIFT)
-33822; PN# 33822-52021 - CABLE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SELECT (FOR FLOOR SHIFT)

quick question...i know it didnt melt, but ive been reading one some threads in here and some people have their cables melt. some people said it was due to after market header, and i think someone said it was because of an ebay header. i am just worried because im in the process of buying an ebay header.
so my question is, has anyone had any probelms with their cables melting due to the after market header?

Yes, In both instances mine melted due to my DC header. The first time because it was touching the header, and the second time because I made abracket but it was still too close to the header. A good idea would be to get some type of heat wrapping for the shifter cables and/or make some sort of bracket to hold the cables away from the header.
I'm bringing this back from the archives.... I just changed my clutch and had the same issue with my boosted box good thing it happened at the shop and not while driving, are the part numbers above still good and does anyone know if the cables are 500 hundred bucks cuz I really hadn't budgeted for this and my car might be grounded for a while lol
