MPG DROPPING.... :(

Hey guys another question; lately on my Scion Xa 05 i have been wasting double the amount of gas that i normally do.

I don't know what it is but its kinda of ____ing me off $36 a week is not cool i used to be able to do that in 2 weeks tops. I changed spark plugs last year around this time.... Tires have air on them perfect, there balance and all. I have an intake and filter is washed and clean. Oil only has about 2k on it and its syntactic. I ran out of ideas on what could be causing this..... Any help or suggestions will help greatly guys.

Thanks,

did you change your driving habit? do you now drive more in the city than on the highway? how about weight? are you carrying a lot of things in the car?

i read somewhere that the more ethinal they put in the gas the lower your avg mpg will be. could be the reason

^^ and when did you 'clean' the filter? Was it an oil based cleaning system? Some oil may have gotten on the MAF Sensor, give it a cleaning with CRC cleaner or something to that effect.

Intake a SRI or CAI? Any more traffic than usual? Gas from a different station that usual?

You said you changed your plugs last year? Didn't say Iridiums, but I would think it's about time to check em, replace em , check the gap on em. Won't get into which plugs are best , but they might need checking anyway , they do weird things sometimes.

Checking Plugs tomorrow and replacing them if needed... But also wanted to replace PCV as it only cost $6 in my local shop; but where is this located on teh XA guys???

jct 04-02-2011 02:42 PM

follow the vent hose from the air intake tube to the valve cover

FL21289 04-16-2011 12:59 AM

Late Update guys.

But i replaced the Spark Plugs which were pretty much dirty. And also replaced the PCV valve which was also dirty like from oil or something.

Boy what a difference those 2 parts did, feel like i got my power and gas back once again.

Thanks you all like always for the help ;)

Did you check your engine motor mounts? If they're worn and you're engine shakes when rev'd in N (as a test)... it's a waste of power/mpg.
