my 2006 xA and engine noise in a 2008 Yaris
I have my high mileage 2006 Scion xA, automatic, with 13,650 miles on it and it runs well (obviously). I am looking to pick up another commuter car and decided on a 2008-2010 Toyota Yaris 3 dr, automatic. I would prefer a CPO from Toyota with less than 10,000 on it and if not will splurge and buy a 2010. I am in no rush. I am attempting to find the "right" CPO Yaris.
I did find a 2008 Yaris with 20K on it. While driving it I noticed that when accelerating it sounds like there is a "static" sound from the engine. What I mean by this, is it sounds like you are tuned to a FM channel with no broadcast, just static. It disappears as soon as you let off the gas.
During the test drive the sales consultant said it was "normal".
Since my xA and the Yaris are similar with the motor, I have NO sounds like this. The Yaris is a CPO, which is some assurance, but that sound just does not seem right. Does anybody have any suggestions?
It is a one owner, however it was a lease, and I think it was leased to a car rental company because of the rental rash - those scrapes on the rear bumper from luggage scratching and also the amount of scratches in the plastic in the cargo area. My fear that if it is a rental it was driven hard by someone or others at one time and the sound I hear is some type of prelude to engine damage.
