Oil leaking from around the oil filter

I noticed oil leaking from around the oil filter. I tightened it more and it still persists. I'm wondering if the leak is coming from the filter itself or above the filter housing. I didn't want to do a another oil change and change the oil filter without consulting the scion community first. I have purolator original filter there right now, last oil change was at about 4k.

Sounds as if you're about due for another oil change at this point anyway...could be a leak from the oil filter housing or the filter itself. I'd say do an oil change and when you do clean the area well so you can see where any new leak might be coming from and see if a new filter cures the problem. If you overtightened the oil filter you could have damaged the seal within the filter...either way do an oil and filter change and start troubleshooting all over again with a clean slate.

Have also seen rubber gasket from old filter stick to sealing surface. Then when new filter is installed there is a double gasket that can distort and cause a leak. Had this happen on different car years ago. Now I check visually when changing a filter.

There was some gasket residue on the housing. i usually wipe it clean regardless. Not sure what happen tbh.

oil is leaking again. there's a drip formulating on the oil filter. Oil filter was installed snug with a little bit of oil around the ring.
