Default Scion xB AC Compressor. Help me DIY!

Hey everyone,

Just got my wife out of a 2005 VW Jetta and into a 2005 xB1. We purchased the car knowing that the AC didn't blow cold, but figured it couldn't be too expensive being a Toyota compared to what Volkswagens cost to fix, so we took a gamble and bought it.

Just got it checked out by a shop for $120 and they said that everything electrical is fine but the compressor is failing. They gave me a quote for that which is $1500. But they said if I don't replace everything, then the part will have no sort of warranty, so to replace everything to retain warranty it would be $2800....pretty ridiculous.

I am a DIYer...but usually only when I can pull up a few guides on how to do it. I know I am capable, have to tools on hand. Just need some help on either how to do it, or some helpful links on already written guides.

Again the car in question is a 2005 Scion xB, it has 110,XXX miles. We picked it up a week ago today for $6900. Not a super fantastic deal for the mileage and the ac being out, but we couldn't find anything else in this sort of exterior, interior, and engine condition around here.

Thanks for any help!

Does anyone have Ice cold AC? If its 107f outside my XA will keep it cool but never freeze you out.

Same here. Above the 100 degrees F my AC will keep me comfortable, but not freeze. I don't think the system was designed to handle those temperatures.
