its normal, its just that your car is not completely warmed up untill
after the blue termom. turns off

badbasic 03-19-2007 03:33 PM

normal!

Read the vehicle's manual and you would know that this is a normal occurrence.

It's like an echo chamber in here... but yes, it is completely and totally normal. Don't worry about it.

Yup, what they all said. LOL

I'd happened to read it in my manual before cold weather so I knew it was to happen. A bit aggravating, but that's how it is setup.

What they said. Shortly after I started reading this fine board last fall, this topic was covered. It is a bit strange, but normal for our boxes.

It is normal for almost any car if the temperature is cold enough. Some only do it based on a threshold of how cold it is compared to operating temp. Some simply put a time span in the ECU/PCM such as it will not enable 4th until 60 seconds has passed, etc.

Mine is even slower going into 3rd right after i crank it. It's a bit of a pain when it's cold but knowing it's there to save the works makes me feel better.

it keeps the rpms of the engine higher so the motor will warm up faster...

low_down_xb 03-23-2007 04:23 PM

normal, just give the tranny time to warm up, normal toyota thing, but you could always get a 5 speed and then you will go into any gear you want it to, hahaha

I second that

Normal, covered many times before on ScionLife, it does it to protect the engine (and automatic transmission, if equipped).

This and many other important things are covered in the owners manual you were given with the vehicle.

Read it. Really! You will learn a lot about your new car.
