I drive an automatic too and its real hot where I live. I had the same problem with low end torque when I had a Apexi short air ram installed. At that point, I had an axleback exhaust. I tried installing an aftermarket 4-1 header but there was no improvement to low end power. If you are on a tight budget, the cheapest thing to regain that low end power is to swap back to the factory air box. In my case, it worked well and it won't cost you anything

GReddy S/C... 4-2-1 better low end response, 4 tubes into 2 tubes into the collecter, little more backpressure, more low end torque, truck exhaust manifolds use this design a lot, 4-1 is 4 tubes to the collecter, flows better, less back pressure, a slight loss of low end torque but better top end gains.... if you want a one day bolt on mod thatll get your box moving reliably, get a GReddy S/C.

winter you are wrong. it's a proven problem for like 10% of the people who've done the mod. and installer error is probably connected with their problems. My pulley has been on my car for over 40,000 miles now and to be honest the miles aren't easy miles on my car. never has it come loose , never has the belt gotten frayed or broke.

9 out 0f 10 is a darn good success rate. especially when the failures can be linked to fudged installs more often than not.

go for a l pipe or snail style air intake gives more torque than the straight short rams

Ok, to help out the automatics I highly recomend getting a header to install. While the header is being installed, to help you with torque have the exhaust shop cut out your stock down pipe and replace it with a 2.25inch exhaust pipe.

The stock down pipe is a double piped piece of crap, it slows down your boxes and is choking much needed power. This is what we do here at PrecisionMuffler.com when ever we install a header. We ask if the customer wants a little more umph for just a few dollars more. Replace the stock down pipe with a new 2.25inch down pipe to the catalytic converter and you will still be smog legal AND you will gain much needed power! A light wieght pulley helps out too. I hope this helps and I would also recomend a much needed tranny cooler for those autos. This can work for manuals as well with the down pipe.

Some guy on here in an xB just got a 4-2-1 header and dynoed the before and after. The after dyno showed it took a pretty big chunk out of the low end, but raised the high. Not sure what happened with all that, but I would be cautious.

Edit: Here is the article. MMW 4-2-1 if I remember correctly.

I have the 4-2-1 and I have no power loss at all. He may need some more mods to help it out

he's just looking for a small boost in low end so it doesn't seem as slugish as it is.

simple things like a 4-1 exhaust header, cold air intake, *andwith further reading into the matter* light weight pully and an Axelback or Catback exhaust end to help out a bit. thats what i'm doing and those few things would help quite a bit, specialy that 4-1 header, helps on the lower end while the 4-2-1 and 4-3-2-1 headers are more for top end.

i'll be doing the CA intake from injen, perrin pully, injen SES axel back exhaust and DC sports 4-1 header and should boost me atleast 15-20 all togethere. thats all i'm going to be doing until i can afford the 3SGTE build up and swap. hell i might even get TT turbo kit for the time being and when i'm able to do the swap i'll probably just give what temporary pieces i got away to local xB/xA people who want them cause i'm nice like that.
