YourNameHere 09-22-2006 07:06 PM

honey0bucket 09-23-2006 12:16 AM

It is an exhaust that goes from your catalytic converter back.. instead of the normal axle back exhaust..

MagnaFlow also makes a catback exhaust... I had a custom header back exhaust on with a magnaflow muffler and tip and it sounded very nice and felt good on the butt dyno.

ahhhhh...well I guess I have a TRD sport "cat back" love the way it sounds....but that's not what you asked.....so this post was completely usless.......but I still like my TRD :)

honey0bucket 09-23-2006 03:18 PM

forgive me but...what is the point of a catback on an xB? unless your supercharged or turbo'd....your not going to get any more power out of our super snale boxes.

It gives me some more ponys in my engine, might not be noticeable, but when you go face to face with another xb on the highway you do notice the difference. and anyway, I wasn't asking if I need it or not, that wasn't my question.

I went to a local muffler shop and had a Magnaflow catback put on. Ran me about $240 and I absolutely love it. Magnaflow is what the guy that's getting 124 whp on an NA motor is running. I can't remember where I read it, but I know that's what he was running. Don't hassle me about the post, because I don't want to look for it. Here's what mine looks like.

I would also suggest going with a silencer and make sure all your bends are mandral bends, I think that's how you spell it, otherwise it will sound raspy.

Thers is no such thing as best, they are all a lil better than the others in a diff way, do resarches to see it for yourself, insted of listening to how others like thier picks, it is all up to you which one you like the best, and go for it.

tjet 09-29-2006 04:53 PM

Hey midget thanks for that one. I'll check it out. Isn't maganaflow spacialized on american cars? Well I guess not, but I had an s10 extreme with a maganaflow catback, and it was great, so it should be good on xb too.

and of course theres got to be a best cat back for xb you wise ___.just like theres a best for anything else.man theres some people here that makes me want to throw up with their stupid attitude, no wonder why I've never want to be in a club

if you know what you're doing a custom one will rape any other system , much better deal , you can tune the sound , you can pick the tip.

Amen to that! Seriously... just go to like a Master Muffler and Brake or something like that. Tell them you want a catback exhaust. They'll ask you what size piping, muffler, and tip you want. It's cheaper that way, and you get what you want.

tjet 09-29-2006 09:11 PM

Thanks fellas!

Just a clarification. If you go to your local Mom and Pop Muffler shop, or even a national chain, and have them custom build you a cat-back you are not going to have mandrel bent tubing. Exhaust shops with actual mandrel benders are few and far between. Those mandrel bends and aluminized steel vs. stainless steel are the differences you will see between the manufacturer's cat-back and one put together by a local shop.

Now this won't make a big difference in performance. In fact, you probably won't notice the difference at all. The difference in the weight of your wallet will be much more noticeable than any performance gap you may find.

The mandrel bends really won't affect your performance until you get into some pretty substantial horsepower numbers. Most likely more than produced by any off the shelf forced induction kit out there. And the stainless steel is just about material quality and longevity. Sure it will last longer than aluminized steel. But unless you make a practice of driving through salt water on a regular basis, you'll never know the difference.

Very good point! I didn't see the need for spending tons of money on some exotic exhaust when I really only wanted it for the looks. I am very happy with mine! It gave me a great sound, a good look and a little bit more power. That's all I wanted and that's exactly what I got for half the price.
