xA Manual tranny problem
Hi all, new member here.
I acquired a hand me down 2004 xA 5-sp manual a couple weeks ago. It's been passed around to family members since new. Only 126K miles.
Unfortunately I had to quickly merge onto a highway form a stop during rush hour last night and I think I revved too high in first gear. The car still goes, but it doesn't' seem like any gear is fully engaged. The rpms go up but the car doesn't accelerate as it should. Did I blow up the transmission?
I think I'm going to try to change out the oil over the weekend and see if that helps. Is there any hope?
What should I expect to pay for a transmission replacement?
Thanks for any info.

If I had to guess I would say your clutch is on its way out...lots of options for new clutches and, depending upon how mechanically inclined you are, you could actually replace it yourself.
I highly doubt you need an entire new transmission.

Thanks! That makes me feel better. I’ve owned a few cars with manual transmissions in the past but never owned them long enough to experience a failing clutch. Pretty sure that’s what it is. I’ll give replacement s go on my own as it seems pricey.
