xB Auto Transmission needs to warm up?
I've noticed in the morning when I drive out of my neighborhood that my auto trans seems slow to upshift for the first minute or so.
I have a 2006 xB with 60K. Is this normal? This is my first xB. Any help would be appreciated.

Yup! Until the engine temp gets to at least 139º the transmission is in it's warm-up mode and won't even go into 4th gear. At 139º the little blue "cold engine" light goes out, and the transmission goes into normal mode.
What the computer is trying to do is to get the engine/transmission up to operating temp as soon as possible.

I had the same concern because on a volvo we owned this happened just before the transmission went out. Then I happened to be looking through the manual and there it was. It won't go into overdrive until the blue temp light goes off. In cold weather, you'll get much better gas mileage if you don't turn on the heater until the blue temp light goes off. It will take almost twice as long to get up to operating temperature with the heater on and you won't get much heat because the engine isn't warmed up. Also, a cold engine gets lousy gas mileage. So the faster your engine warms up, the better. Like the previous poster said, that's the main reason while OD is locked out when the engine is still cold.
