Engine choking/stuttering at 70 mph
Hey guys,
It's been a few years since I have posted, so here goes. I am at around 92,500 miles and I have been experiencing some weird issues. When I am cruising at around 70 mph, or 80 my engine starts choking badly. If I step on it or feed the engine more fuel it's fine, but if I am steadily holding the throttle it starts choking and having symptoms like that of when you run out of gas. I have recently changed the spark plugs, and cleaned the MAF sensor. I am hoping it is as simple as replacing the air filter, as I haven't done this in a while, but it is quite a task since the filter is routed through a cold air intake type of pipe down inside the driver fender. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and any advice that won't involve taking the front bumper off would help! Thanks in advance, also I have been running a little rich and I can't recall if I need to have the e-manage reflashed or what, but it's unusual for the AFR to be as off as it is, I don't know maybe I am spinning my wheels here but I am concerned for the life of my car!

Well, let's think about this. Miles per hour never matter when sputtering. That is an RPM issue. Let's say your at 3500RPM at 70MPH in 5th gear and you are sputtering. You should also be sputtering at 3500RPM in every other gear then. Obviously you need to drive the same, as in, hold your 3500 in each gear, not just sweep through it from 2000 to 4000. That won't allow the same effect as if you were steadily cruising at 3500. If you definitely aren't sputtering at 3500 in any gear, then it's going to have to do with how fast you are going which is incorporating some moving part that is being forced on by wind resistence. For instance, if you intake is in fact loose, then that would make sense because the force of 70MPH is causing the looseness to heighten, but at 30MPH it won't be prominant although the RPMs would be the same.
