Default Successful 2006 xB GReddy Supercharger install..

For those who purchased or are thinking about getting the GReddy xB supercharger kit, it WILL work in the 2006 xB AFTER rewiring the ECU piggyback harness. I downloaded the 2006 ECU diagram from Scionlife and cross-referenced it to the 2005 https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=138456, then called Greddy to confirm the pins leading to the eManage. All but two wires will need to be moved, and some of the ones that are cut will need the original path restored. No hardware modification is needed other then shaving the corner of the supercharger body to clear the radiator hose as called out in the Greddy install guide.

I can provide documentation if you need it, I have a spreadsheet outlining the new pin locations for the 2006 and a comparison with the 2005 mapping. GReddy did also recommend installing their O2 sensor adapter 1, I have not installed it yet and have not had an error code pop up yet. Please PM me if you have questions.

UPDATE: For those new to this thread, I have encounter a few problems, one from improper installation, one from normal aging and one unrelated to the supercharger.

#1 - shorted engine harness ECU power to starter relay. This was my screw up, I ran the engine harness that goes over the valve cover directly under the supercharger bypass valve arm. The arm ended up chafing through the harness and shorting those two wires. I rerouted it further away from the bypass actuator after repairing the wires and no problems.

#2 - stuck bypass valve. My valve would stay open and not make any boost. Started after about three months, guessing the cause was engine and road grit getting into the bearing for the valve actuator arm. Fixed by applying machine oil to the actuator arm bearings once a week for three weeks, problem gone now.

#3 - randomly lost power to my fuel injectors. This one sucked since it left my car stranded three times. Problem ended up being a loose EFI fuse, don't know how it happened and completely unrelated to the supercharger. Fixed by using a tiny screwdriver to bend the prongs of the fuse holder closer together for better contact.

Running fine now without incident, good luck on your installs.

Can you send me that spreadsheet? I am hopefully going to be putting in the GReddy S/C in early summer.

Here is the wiring information for the 2006 xB. It will list the Greddy harness wire location, then color, then the 2006 harness location, then the signal.

The 1(A) nomenclature comes from the ECU schematic for the 2006 xB. It is listed in the first post under the electrical_xb06 zip file. The two documents of use are 048-057 engine control.pdf and 178-189 connector list.pdf.

(A) = connector E3
(B) = connector E4
(C) = connector E5
(D) = connector E6

For this guide, I called the larger GReddy connector A and the smaller B. Also, I listed the four individual ECU connector ends as the pigtail and the molded single piece as the standard connector.

GReddy 06 xB Signal
A1 - purple w/ red - 1(D) - Injector signal #4
A2 - yellow w/ red - 2(D) - Injector signal #3
A3 - orange w/ red - 5(D) - Injector signal #2
A4 - blue w/ red - 6(D) - Injector signal #1
A5 - grey - 20(C) - Throttle position sensor
A6 - white - 28(D) - Airflow input
A7 - yellow - not used
A8 - no wire
A9 - black w/ red - 7(C) - Injector ground
A10 - no wire
A11 - no wire
A12 - green w/ red - not used - Injector channel B
A13 - white w/ red - not used - Injector channel A
A14 - red - 1(A) - Power
A15 - black - 3(C) - Ground
A16 - brown - 1(B) - RPM signal
A17 - green - pigtail 28(D) - Airflow output
A18 - no wire

B1 - blue w/ white - pigtail 17(C) - No 1 ignition signal in
B2 - orange w/ white - pigtail 15(C) - No 3 ignition signal in
B3 - purple w/ white - pigtail 16(C) - No 2 ignition signal in
B4 - no wire
B5 - no wire
B6 - blue w/ black - 17(C) - No 1 ignition signal out
B7 - orange w/ black - 15(C) - No 3 ignition signal out
B8 - yellow w/ white - pigtail 14(C) - No 4 ignition signal in
B9 - yellow w/ black - 14(C) - No 4 ignition signal out
B10 - purple w/ black - 16(C) - No 2 ignition signal out
B11 - no wire
B12 - no wire

NOTE: The following wires will need to be cut instead of spliced into. Route the pigtail ends to wires with a white stripe or the green wire as described above. Route the other ends to wires with a black stripe or the white wire as described above.

28(D), 14(C), 15(C), 16(C), 17(C)

NOTE: The following pins will need to be repaired after the harness is rewired (i.e. connect a new piece of wire to go between the pigtail and other connector end)

24(D) to pigtail 24(D)
8(C) to pigtail 8(C)
9(C) to pigtail 9(C)
10(C) to pigtail 10(C)
11(C) to pigtail 11(C)

Final NOTE: Disconnect the wire that ground is wired to via the bullet connector. If this is not unhooked, you will get an error code.

VIP_CAMO, you will definitely notice the difference. And no, I haven't gotten any code trips since it went it, though I may be putting on the GReddy O2 sensor adapter since I already got it. The S/C doesn't make it a rocket by any stretch but does make it much more fun to drive, especially on hills and corners. It does take about half a second or so after a start to start making boost, not sure why. I will be getting it dyno'd eventually and should have the eManage remapped to lean out some of the rich areas. I did also throw in a set of cooler NGK plugs, not sure how much they help but they should keep the engine wear down a bit.

I'll put some pics up later.

Mmmmmmm, new toy for the xB soon then! Dammit, & I just said I wasn't going to do anything to the xB. But going from a supercharged tC (I no longer use it as a daily driver) to a stock xB ain't too pretty power-wise. I feel like I'm put puttin' my way around town. I still love it none-the-less though.

I have a question now does this need to be done to a 06 xA? or does it have the same computer as the 05-04? My guess would be it has the newer computer like the 06 xB.

According to GReddy we were always told that it was for the xB only cause of a hood clearance issue.

If the only thing that is stopping you is hood clearance you might want to look into what could be ground down to fit it in. If you want when I get mine on I will take measurements and post them.

Sorry for a lack of pictures to date, my camera is not working at the moment. My best bet would be using the built in cam with the Macbook Pro, I don't have another digital cam. As for squeezing it into the xA, you will need 10" from the front edge of the oil cap to the radiator and at least 5" from the top of the engine block (measured with the plastic engine cover off) to your hood. If it is only hood clearance, you could cut the area away fro the hood and fabricate and install a bump similar to the '96 Eclypse / Eagle Talon. Not sure what is available for turbo applications, I personally went with the SC because I did not want to mess with an intercooler and wanted a reliable, fixed max boost. There is a person from Scion Evolution with an xA who's dipping into the 14's in the 1/4 mile, it would be reasonable to assume they are using some sort of forced induction.

I would not grind any of the roots blower housing on the top, no telling how thick the metal actually is. Also, the tallest piece on the s/c is the vacuum controlled throttle body, I may be able to grab a camera from work tomorrow to post some pics.

Ouch yeah no doubt if there is another blower that fits better go that route. I had no idea the clearance was such a huge difference on the xA

Well, got my camera working again, so look for pics tomorrow. Flash card must have been corrupt, reformatteed it and downloads fine now, just too dark for pics. Just hope the Monster Motorworks engine cover gets here in time, otherwise you get to see my lovely wire routing job for the spark plugs and boost gauge.
