Amp usage??

I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge with this: I'm waiting for my amp to come in for my separates. In the meantime, I'm running stock speakers and using an MTX TA8502 2-Ch amp to power my MTX T9512-04 Superwoofer. I have 2 sets of MTX T6001s and wondering if I can also run them off the amp 'till the 4-ch comes in for them. The sub is running bridged and the signal through the rca's.

Yes, you can run them all from your single 2-ch amp, if wired correctly.

Since your amp is rated for 1-Ohm stereo (2-Ohm bridged) operation and you're using a single voice coil 4-Ohm sub, you can run both sets of components in parallel stereo, with the sub bridged. In total, that'll result in a 1-Ohm stereo load, which is the amp's max load.

The only problem with such a setup is frequency filtering, as you won't be able to use the amp's built-in crossover, you'll have to defeat it so the amp is running in full-range mode. Unfortunately that means everything connected will get a full range signal, the components would be getting low bass and the sub getting mids & highs, which wouldn't sound acceptable.

So if you want to proceed, you'll need to implement passive filtering for both the component sets and the sub. You can build your own if you want and know how, or can buy everything needed.

You'd use 1 high-pass filter between the amp and each of your MTX passive crossovers, which is why you'd need 4. The low-pass filter goes between the amp's bridged outputs and the sub.

That's pretty close to $100 after tax & shipping, and since it'd just be a temporary implementation, might not be worth the effort or cost. Systems like this with all passive filtering were more common 20 years ago, when competition organizations had low power classes like 1-50 watts, where people would use a 25wpc 'cheater' amp to run the whole system at with a 0.5 to 1 Ohm load, as some amps produced up to 500w that way.

Thanks alot for the info nodsetse! You're right, temporary and not worth the effort...plus I wouldn't want the distortions from the wrong frequencies in each speaker. I'll let be the sub and give the other amp a few more weeks the wait, should be worth it in the end.
