Our rear compartment is made of cardboard or something. We'd have to make a split compartment. When I mean "We" I mean "Mikochu Conglomerado!" TM R'd and C'd!

Brian,

I never once said Jon called my company. I said I didn't know who it was, and I got to take your word for it that it was Jon. I have no idea. All I said was that it was unprofessional and wrong for whomever to call my company and yell at my assistant, Kathy. I never said it was Jon, SPFR, or ID and I have never said anything negative about any of their product! I have never seen the SPFR enclosure. And ID makes awesome speakers. In fact, I'm putting some of their components and midbass drivers in my xBox this week!

I have no reason to make this up and don't appreciate the assumption that I did. I do not hate you, Jon or anyone at SPFR or ID and do not want to start a war of words. I do not even know most of you. I'm just a xB enthusiasts that loves my xBox and making great enclosures.

The fiberglass business is a very tough one. It's a business in which products (especially hoods) are copied every day on purpose and there is nothing that can really be done about it. Design patents are pretty much useless. I go to fiberglass shops all the time where I see hoods being copied. Some of my competitors even do it! We are actually making a fiberglass Scion xB ram air hood and you can bet this hood will probably be copied. The best thing that a company can do is make a great product at a fair price and offer excellent customer service to go along with it!

Again, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I just think whomever called owes Kathy an apology for what was said and how it was said.

Keep Jammin,

--Ronnie

no worries man, but next time if something like this happens, you should think twice before broadcasting it all across the internet. especially if you didn't know who it was to begin with, posts like this can easily spiral out of control (just look at the locked AEM/Injen thread)

I personally don't care either way, i love my SPFR box, and Jon is a great guy, and i'm sure yours is cool too - just happens to be oddly enough almost exactly the same looking and i was just pointing that out, maybe i could have worded it a bit better.

sorry if i sounded like i was making you out to be a bad guy, i don't even know you.

either way i don't know why i get involved, not like it's my company or anything, i guess i stick up for products i like, sometimes too much maybe, and espcially companies that are sponsoring my ride.

I understand where you are coming from and I'm cool with it. I'm sure both enclosures are similar because a lot of the design is from the factory panels. I think its time to end this thread. If anyone has anything else to say, feel free to call, PM or email me.

I'll soon post an updated price and special as promised on a new thread.

Keep Jammin,

Damn! It's hard to pick who wins the essay contest.

So, what's the price for one?

AudioFormz subenclosure is not a rip off by any means. Can you think of another way to put a sub enclosure in that tiny space. Prolly not!

Not everyone realizes the process you must go through to make these enclosures... Materials are exteremely expensive as well as having the proper tools, and know how to mass produce these.

imo 550 is steep for just an enclosure. but it's not just wood and carpet... it's one that is custom fit for your car that will sound good and look good...

if i were to make something like that for a customer, it would be well over 550 ...

Wait, this sounds familiar. I think a similar phone call was made to a Nor*Cal Car Audio Shop Back in Fall '03.

Sorry, No Patent, No legal rights on the design.

This is why I had fiberglass enclosures custom made for me! Actually, that's not why, but I hope everybody can work this out. IMO, whoever makes the best product at the fairest price shall get the most business.

This isnt a patentable idea but it is intellectual property and could/should be protected. The ethics / morals / legality boundary is a very grey area .

I know someone who put a sub in the rear storage area before I even heard of the SPFR enclosure. Does that mean he should be getting mad too? Everyone has ideas, and unfortunately they will be similar. Like some said, its all about making an idea better. When someone designs better dental floss, should the inventor be getting mad? If someone designs a better tire, should the person who thinks they origally thought of it bet mad?

Just a few thoughts.

Exactly! Anyone who goes to a car show will get ideas. And so on, and so on.

Some ideas get better, some don't.

I'd like to see the Audioformz enclosure. Why? Because I want to run a 10 not a 12 in the back.

Just my opinion, anyone can scream me. LALALALALALALALALALALLALALALALA!

just so eveyone knows SPFR sponsors my car, but i have no part in the company other than trying to help out a friend

as for his behaviour, strategies, marketing etc... that's up to him to handle and if he did create this drama, it's up to him to figure out how to fix it

Let's let the products and the prices speak for themselves.

I am still shaking my head at this one. I find it curious how specific names weren't mentioned by Ronnie but rather by those affiliated with SPFR. Brian, regardless of how you perceive it, being SPONSORED by a company makes you all too bias and very much a part of the company, why, because you represent them everytime someone asks about your mods or sees the graphics you probably have plastered on your box.

I find it particularly disturbing how some people appearently feel SPFR had the right to monopolize the market for this product simply because it was the first to be intruduced onto the market. There is no question that it is positively rediculous to charge what they charged for that enclosure. Some may say it wasn't too rediculous because many of them sold, but I think it would be fair to say they only sold because there was no alternative. Now that there is an alternative we get lots of drama and a price drop......That in my book is shady and without ethic.

More over I think it was absolutly appropriate for Ronnie to post with regard to the phone call because it gives us, the consumer, vital information about a company and/or its employees and affiliates. Since i don't think there are SPFR fanatics out there I can only assume the phone call came from someone affiliated with SPFR and the substance of the call, regardless of the tone by which it was delivered, gives more evidence as to the character of those involved with that company. The sudden reduction in price of the SPFR box is the proverbial nail in the coffin, and it would be futile to consider it as simple coincidence.

Am I going to purchase either one of these products...NOPE. I have found a reputable shop to fabricate an enclosure for 2 subs using the spare tire side as well for the amazing price of $350.00. This enclosure is measured for my 10w6's and will most definitly sound far better than any mass produced enclosure. The resources are out there people, you just have to take the time to find them.

Dont TAKE what you can get...TAKE the time to get what you want.

A lot of people here have been asking for some more pics of our enclosure. So as promised, here is a pic of our xB enclosure out of the car in a paint ready finish.

Yup, the call threatened a bunch of legal action, and all the other stuff.

Isn't that why we live in America, because of the choices and opportunities we have?

Its nice to have choices, and not have to be forced w/ only one choice. Look at Coke and Pepsi. Or Sprite and 7-up. 10 inch subs or 12 inch subs. MP3 or no MP3.
