Base Model Sound
I didnt know what "Base" meant when i bought one to replace my wonderful, compromised-beyond-repair 2006xb (still on hand). I do now.
NOTHING ANYWHERE ONLINE - including this site- suggests that any part of a base model can be upgraded.
SOUND is everything to me. Being stupid doesnt change that.
My original xb had a Bluetooth with mic & usb port unit when i bought it used, but the SYSTEM is what affects the sound.
The 2006xb came with Pioneer Premium Sound System, which has an amplifier.
It has always been able to trump the 2006xb's noise level ;->
Base model basic Pioneer Sound System doesn't and can't and sucks.
I can swap the Standard steering wheel just for comforts sake
& my sound shop can stick a 3rd party remote control at the same time they transfer the Bluetooth radio unit.
But Sound will still suck. Forever (I'm 74)
So i need to know if - transferring my entire Pioneer Premium sound system is categorically impossible.
That's what *zero* on-line indication of any scion base upgrade - electrical or otherwise - implies.
I would just like an informed answer.
Thanks for listening.

What exactly are you asking and why would you not be able to upgrade any car's audio, even an xB with the 'Base Sound System'? If you go to the Crutchfield website they will list what fits an Xb or any local stereo store would be more than happy to sell you something to upgrade your audio.

I understand your impatience
& apologize for all the clumsy chatter
Of Course i can upgrade any part of audio system.
AND/BUT/OTOH,
the elegant solution I want would still begin with replacing base steering wheel with the one from my standard 06xb w/audio controls.
I called Crutchfield & got an authoritative MAYBE from Rick.
The only way to know if *those* remote controls can ever function in the base model,
is to have someone remove steering wheel and look at the wiring.
Thanks for the assist.

No need to apologize, just wanted to make sure I knew what you were asking. I don't know if anyone is going to be able to tell you without taking off the wheel and checking to see if the wiring is there, looking in a Service Manual with wiring diagrams but I know it was in mid-'06 that it got the steering wheel audio controls.
Another option, that might require some digging, is look on some of the Toyota OEM parts sites and see what they list for steering wheel options if you put your VIN in...you might be able to ask the dealer also but I prefer to do the searching myself as most of the parts guys don't want to be bothered.
