I bought another xB the other day (2 in the driveway now), a Salsa Red 2006, and the dome light won't go out when the door is closed. It is dimmer on "door" than "on", but will not go off.

Also, it didn't have a remote with it, so I bought one and programmed it in. It was working fine, but now it will only unlock and not lock. Door buttons seem to work OK.

The box has a salvage title (about 70,000 miles ago) and has been used as a work vehicle by a car pop a lock company.

I remember reading somewhere that the dome light and door lock circuitry are tied together, is it possible something fried somewhere? Where would I start troubleshooting at?

I would start at your door sensors...its those ones with the rubber boot and it either grounds or ungrounds the wires when the doors are closed... Forgot the exact name but start there and work your way back

Sounds like the relay "burnt out" i think it's about $350 to replace

I'd start with the door striker first. Start with the cheap fix then work your way up.

What about the "door open" warning light on the dash? Is it on?

Nope. Everything is normal except the dome light stays on at maybe half brightness. I forgot to add that there is an extra map light wired in. I have a sneaky suspicion that it's hooked up to the dome light and toasted the relay.

Do you think disconnecting the add-on map light (i'd try removing the ground) could give an idea of what's going on?

I have the same problem:

Dome light is on and door ajar is closed and no lights on dash.

1. How do you test the relay if it's burnt out?
2. What are other options?

I know it's not the door switches because there are no open doors on my dash. Please advise.

did you leave the dome light turned on?

check the easy simple things first

Reactor..yes disconnect the add on map light and see how that works out for you

very easy way to confirm or deny..that the map light is an issue

The problem is the relay I realize and "NO" the switch is not on that would be the easiest thing to look at it. Anyone know where to get the relay cheap?

My 2005 xB is doing the same thing. The dome light is in the door position but wont turn off. No door open indicators are on and
also I bought a replacement Fob/Remote and it will only unlock the car but will not lock it.

Any advice?
