Default Electrical issue

New to the forum. Trained as a mechanic in the Marine Corp and been bending wrench’s for 60 years.

recently purchased a 2004 XB 5 speed with 200,000 miles. Expected some issues and have one in particular that baffles me.

some history, previous owners son installed aftermarket stereo and goofy interior lights so there was a rats nest of wires. He took radio out before I bought it. I’m not going to bash the kid cause I probably wasn’t any better at his age

I cleaned up the loose wires.

issue I’m having is the turn signals and dash lights flash for 30 seconds when I open and close either front door. I’m sure it’s not the emergency flashers, relay makes a different sound
The drivers door lock does not work with the switch, key will not rotate to lock the doors it will unlock, same for passenger door.
key fob does not work. There is no audible sounds.

as a note, issue started after I unhooked positive battery cable to remove some of the extra wires.

what ever is going on goes through the door switch. Or am I missing something.

any thoughts?

Sounds like there might be an alarm system involved in the flashing episodes. It could be a factory unit, or maybe an aftermarket unit. Either one could be well hidden. I don't have any experience with the factory system so not much help there. There is a PDF download around for gen 1&2 either on this site or club xb that you may find useful. I can't get my phone to upload it, too large.
