Looking into this head unit

Now, I have seen 1 video of someone saying it will work right out of the box with a iphone 5, but other places say I am needing the extra cable that goes with it to make it work. Anyone have this model or one of the other Pioneers in this series and a iphone 5 / 5s and can shed some light on it for me?
