HID H4 BULB QUESTION

For those with HIDS, what is the metal plate around the H4 bulb for? I've noticed other types of HID bulbs do not have it. Will the range of light be wider if I remove it?

ugh....

glare and you no longer have brights the halogen blubs for the brights that come on those are junk...

don't remove the that shield
