Do they HAVE to be official HID kits? Or can they just be wannabe HID bulbs? :wink:
Personally..........my Supreme Power super whites do the job for me just fine. And at $25 shipped for both bulbs..........I sure as hell can't complain. My headlights are brighter than most on the street...........and white as white can be. Why spend a ton of cash on true HIDs? I guess if you got nothin better to do. :wink: KiL |

yea i meant the real deal system/official ones.
not just bulbs hids consume 1/3 the power of regular halogens, emit 300% morelight. lasts ten times longer than a regular halogen. and they burn at 1/2 the heat. and buying superwhites, piaa, raybrig, all those things that are HID look and they claim its XENON or what not its still just a bulb(regular bulb) that burns at a higher wattage, so it'll generate more heat. hids are defiantly worth it or else all those hi end cars woont be sporting them with a 1000 price tag. but yea hids are nice and costly. i just have a home made kit and i pieced it together with ____ i had already and what i came across on. im not a balla balla but i just wanted to see hid pix.. |

if your smart u can build the ballast's and then buy the bulbs and diy
i did a setup in a integra like that.....and ya no filament bulb compares to a arc type hid bulb...u gotta go drive a car with hid's.....so so so so much better.....course im cheap so i put 100watt jdm piaa's behind projects in my civic...and nokya's in the scion..... |
For those of you that have installed your HIDs, how hard is it to do and do you recommend any specific brands? I was thinking about getting some PIAA's but they're close to half the price of HIDs, so I might as well throw in the extra $$ to do it.

which is the OEM manufactorer for IPF(a really good brand in japan) they carry like a few different kelvin temperatures.. jdmxb is runing 7200k IPF and his cut off is sick, no glare, and dude the road is LIT THE HELL UP. if u're so cal he usually charges a lil over 400 for the kit instlaled w/ a 2 year warranty.. u can't beat that anywhere. the warranty is awesome and he's a wonderful guy... if u decide to get them just let me know ill put u in contact with him |
they are super easy to install and u can get kits on ebay for 200-400 bucks depending on kelvin

How much wiring / rewiring is involved?? Ya, I've seen them on e-bay for pretty cheap and that's probably what I'd end up doing. hahajoey, I'd love to come down to So.Cal and get it done, but I live in Utah and I'm not sure that I'd be able to talk my wife into a trip just for some HID's. :wink:

u pull out your factory stock bulbs....put in the new HID bulbs....there will be a 2 little boxs.....each box will have a connector that goes to the new HID blub you just put in....then take the old factory wire that used to be on the old non hid bulb and plug it into the box that is pluged into the new HID bulb....and then fasten down the little box.....its plug and play

No way it's that easy?? WOW!! I'm not a super mechanic and struggled just putting in a CAI. That's awesome! Well worth it to me now if it's just a matter of plugging stuff in. Can you just zip tie the ballasts down or do you need to drill a whole??

i learned that with a scion, you can hook up hids correctly by using 1 RELAY and 1 FUSE.
its not hard if you know what you're doing. ive installed at least 10 kits in all kinds of cars even scions! im more than happy to help anyone that needs it |

most kits are plug and play and tie down the ballast box....since they draw less power then your stock bulbs there is no need for any other upgrades....some hid kits even have hi and low beam but are more $$$ and with how bright they are no need for hi/low |
What do you all think is a good color temperature?? I've read a couple places that 4100K gives the best light output to the road, but it's pretty hard to find any that are cheap at that temperature. I've seen a TON of 8000K kits, but if I went 8000K I'd probably bump it up to 10000K and get a more purple tint. I'm not sure that I'd like the blueness of the 8000K. I don't want my HIDs looking like just some cheap blue halogen bulbs. What do you guys think??

i run 4300k(oem osram bulbs)...
i used to run 6000k on my other car.. and i also tried like 7500k on my xB(for a week).. anything 7500k or higher is just gross.. its too much color.. like overkill straigh tup! anywhos.. anywhere between 5000-7000 will give u an awesome colored hue and WHILE jepardizing minimal light outup. im running 4300k. its not as "purple" or color as some of the kits people rock.. sometimes i wish there was more color but its cool for now. i plan to just dump them into the foglights as soon as someone sells me their used ones. |
