Problems with wireless remote entry...

I've had the box for a month almost and just today the remotes (both of them) stopped working from a distance. In order to make them work at all, you have to go reallllllly close to the window (touching it) and press the button like 5 times before it decides to lock.

I tried both remotes and it's the same problem.

I took out the battery and put it back in thinking it'd help it...still nothing.

Anyone have this problem? What could it be?

Tammie

could be a radio problem. go to the dealer. its covered. unless you droped the remotes in water or something.

are you near hi voltage lines or anything like that?
Airport
etc...

Nope...none of that. I mean, there are power lines outside of my apartment but those are everywhere.

I bought the car FAR away...could I take it to any dealer or just the one where I bought it?

I might sound stupid here, but why would being near hi voltage lines mess these up? I had an E150 and live(d) near hi voltage lines and they did this, never put the two together. Sorry, Just a girl learning............

when a door isnt shut it will usually not lock the doors.

I would try new batteries. I had a Lexus with the same problem and putting in a fresh battery fixed it. It seems strange that both batteries died simultaneously, though.

Yeah that's why people are telling me to take it to the dealer...weird.

Your lexus batteries died in a month?

I had this problem one evening, about a month after I got the car. It went away after a few hours. I have since used the same battery for a year, no problems

You'd be suprised what hi voltage lines will do to anything. Mostly radio interference, then long term health problems, cancer, etc etc

Thanks. I hoped I moved in time.

I've noticed that the design of the keyfob makes it very easy to push the buttons constantly. In fact, I routinely unlock / lock my car by accident while putting my keys in my pants. I've walked up to my xB and it's been unlocked, but I *KNOW* I locked it previously.

I suppose pushing the buttons a lot will run the battery down...

That's happened to me too! Except, I put it in my purse. With my Ford, you could be right up on it and it wouldn't work. My XB, I feel like I am miles away and it works.

yeah, i was at my friend house the other day and accidently hit my panic button, I was really far away and it went off.
as for the HV power lines, you can take a flourescent tube light and stick one end in the ground while standing under a line (the big ones) and the light you see should give you an idea of the kind of fields that are around those things.

Moved to ICE...you might get a better response here..

Sounds like a science project to me. And they build houses around those things.
