So then can this work on a '07 tC... Im curious cuz im trying this out and its not working... any ideas.. what do you mean start with the key outside... you mean like when im walking to the car then open the door? oh and is on the driver door supposed to be unlocked or all doors... thanks

"Out of the car" means "not inserted in any lock".

However, I wrote that procedure in 2004 well before the tC was even built. Considering that the tC is a completely different car the chances of the xB procedure working is rather slim.

I looked at the tC service manual and I cannot find a procedure to do this in it.
The instructions must come with the new keys or be buried in another manual.

Time to find a friendly Toyota mechanic.

Anyone know if you can program it honk the horn when you hit the keyless lock button? Whenever I hit the lock button, the blinkers just flash and you can hear the doors lock. Would be nice to get a little horn beep also :)

This option is not mentioned in the documentation. Personally I'm quite happy to live without this "feature." Horn chirps are just plain annoying these days.

Any idea how to adjust the delay in the system arming when it goes from steady red to flashng and the delay in when you open a door and the alarm goes off. Seems mines has a 30 second delay to arm and to alarm and I just wished it was instant when a door was opened and likewise after I exit or hit the lock button. Thanks.

Would it work if i tried to program the remote from an 01 Camry?

Or do the # on the back of the remote have to match or something like that?

I tried the steps detailed here.

For the Confirmation mode it responded by unlocking and locking 2 times.
So it seemed that the same sequence has been used in tC's of at least this year.

However, when i tried to Add the key that came with the vehicle (I'm doing this because the key was not remotely locking and unlocking the locks) It responded as expected by locking and unlocking once... then I pressed both the lock and unlock buttons... and then either the lock or unlock button within 3 seconds. However... it did NOTHING after that... it was supposed to respond by locking and unlocking again either once for success or twice for failure. But it didn't do anything. The car works with the key manually and the alarm isn't triggered by using it. When I press the lock and unlock buttons on the key, the led lights up. So, I'm confused what is going on?
Is there a separate reciever somewhere in the tC that may have been removed, that would still allow the rest of all of this to work? Thanks

You'll probably have to visit the dealer to have the immobilizer programmed.

I have a 2007 Scion tC. Came with 2 key fobs plus the Valet. I wanted an extra key, bought it at the dealer for $188, they cut it. Fine.
I read these messages, did the door thing, the key worked with the doors but not the immobilizer.
I let the dealer program the immobilizer and they had problems with it. I watched the guy hook up a laptop to a connector under the fuse box to the left of the steering wheel.
He later comes back and says I "shunt" the system by messing up when I programmed the key. Apparently, there's a security feature, where if you mess up trying to program a key, it will "shunt" the system.
He had to reset everything and start over, lucky for me, I had all the keys with me. He was cool about it once he knew what was going on, but for about half an hour, he was stumped.

They'll try to charge you 1 hour of labor, it's about $90. If you complain or say the right things, they may do it for half price, or $45 so they can get a perfect score on the survey.

I don't think there's any way for end users to program the immobilizer on a tC. Especially if you screw it up on the first try with the door instructions.

Folks, please read the thread title. This procedure was written for first generation xBs which have little in common with tCs, Camrys, etc.

The xB doesn't have an immobilizer. This is a good thing, IMO, since immobilizers don't stop thieves but make losing a key $250+ pure profit for Toyota.

If you insist upon trying to apply a 1st generation xB procedure to later cars don't be surprised if the immobilizer does its thing and shuts you down.

(BTW, doing this in an apartment parking lot DOES get a variety of weird looks as you are repeatedly pushing buttons, turning keys, and flapping doors...) :D

Watching for when I get the "T" badged remote and Key.

Does just changing the remote battery cause you to reprogram both fobs? I changed my battery cause it wasn't working right now neither remote does anything.
