Default RED TOP or YELLOW TOP ?

Hey whats the main difference between the two....also which is the best to go with to improve car audio, or store the most energy so the electrical doesnt dim and stuff like that.....also when installed in the trunk, do u run wire to the positive and negative directly from the other battery, or does it have to be grounded near the trunk ? thanks guys

yellow top is a better battery.. hence the higher pricetag lol..

redtop is lighter i believe.

oh and the audio will always dim, without either a capacitor or a better alternator.

you can ground in the trunk, if it's a good ground.. a grounding kit in the engine bay would be a good idea as well.

Red top is a standard starting battery , the yellow top is a deep cycle - made to be discharge and recharged heavily. For everyday use get the red top for heavy stereo systems get the yellow.

this is correct, i would also reccomend that you put two fuses in line when running a second battery... one near the battery on the front going to the battery in the rear and one in the rear going up front. keep them within 12 inches of the batteries...

second batteries are usually used if you play your system for long periods of time with your car off, like at shows etc... so i would also reccomend a battery isolator...

^ That makes no sense... I've seen plenty of people with yellow tops who drive their cars alot... why would you not be able to drive it alot?

I think what he meant was that yellow tops don't like being recharged, and drained at the same time...

they will wear the life down... yellow tops were designed for boats, where they would sit for long periods of time, and discharge slowly... they could be drained and then recharged to almost full potential. Normal batteries are not capable of doing that.
Smaller boats don't have as many electronics like a car would... lights ecu, huge stereo systems, etc... So the rapid discharging, and charging will wear the life of the yellow top down... most yellow tops last a year or so on a daily driven car that has a decent system, if it's played moderately hard... but will last a lifetime for a boat...

you could always go with a blue Top. I use these for stereo system on half the car that my shop works on. Blue top with dark grey bottom, model # SC34M
