Default Removing xB Rear Seat entirely?

So I searched the site looking for this topic...it's probably somewhere, but I didn't find it.

Some reviews/articles say you can completely remove the rear seats in a Scion xB, implying that it's not too much work. But looking at the seat backs in particular, it looks pretty hard to do. Is it easy/possible to do, and, if done, is it useful (i.e., Is the floor flat, etc.)? Oh, and if so, how do you do it?

Thanks

It doesn't seem to me that it would be worht the effort, except if you had specific hauling needs or were customizing the rear area.

The bottom cushion just pulls up. it's kinda tricky to get it to lock back in, get your knee on it. As for the back, there is a long bar connected to either side and I think there's also a mounting bracket in the middle. It's a pretty large nut on the sides and doesn't look like it is easy to get a tool on. What you can do is remove the seatbacks from the bar itself, 2 bolts on each back and that would give you more accessibility to the bolts. This may not be needed, I've had the seatback off, just never taken out the whole bar.

The floor is still far from flat... Hope this helps...

Just out of curiousity, what are you planning on putting in the back of the xB?

if you take out the false floor in the back and figure out how to "pop" the seat (bottom) out, then removing the backs is not that hard, if I remember correctly. Not like popping out the seats in a mini van or anything, but everything is pretty easy to reach. And, if you leave the false floor out, the resulting area is big and pretty flat. But, easily dented

thanks for the replies...very helpful. No specific ideas (jacuzzi), just want to know what options are available to fit large white elephants, or gut it to fit gear for a hypothetical epic road trip.

Really going to town there on the interior, superjeer! You must have one of those good go-for-it attitudes. I envy that!

the gas tank is below the rear seats...good luck getting a flat floor...the only reason i see to remove the back seats is for splitting it to recaro seats
