Default Sub-output on amp problems

I am running an A5100T Audiobahn amp and am in the process of installing it into my XA and I ran into a problem when I went to hook up a sub to test the sub-output. The only sound I am hearing from the sub is a lot of distortion and static noise, I have played with the filters and gain which hasn?t helped the problem. The LowPassFilter or FullRange settings seem to not make a difference with the distortion.

The preamp input on the amplifier only has 1 plug for the Subwoofer channel and there are obviously 2 coming from preamp outputs on the deck, either that I plug into this channel will have the same distortion. I have not read anywhere in the manual that tells which preamp cable is to be plugged into the amplifier. Is there some sort of "Y" adaptor for this sort of an application?

All the other channels seem to be working perfectly fine and sound amazing. I am running MB Quart 6.5" components in the front and MB Quart 6.5" coaxial in the rear.

I appreciate any help you can offer. I would rather not hear any Audiobahn bashing posts though.

Thanks in advance

So which rca would make the proper connection to the amp? They make a Y-adapter for this application? Why wouldnt you want to use it?

Well I went back out and wired all four subs in parallel and began to play with the frequency settings and gain with the low pass filter on. I am running a 1ohm load with the subs and I am starting to think it is just a matter of proper tweaking on all the settings.

Are there any trick ways to tuning a stereo that people can offer? If I had an oscilliscope I could monitor the clipping and dial it in appropriatly.

Not sure what else I can provide information wise. This is just a long shot to see if anyone could throw out some tips from their past experiences etc.[/quote]

Based upon some specs I found on-line, this is a 6 channel amp that is optimized for 2 ohm operation. If you are "bridging" the rear channels, keep the 2 ohm stability in mind because it will only be stable to a 4 ohm load mono(2 ohm stereo = 4 ohm mono). If you switched the channels around an the woofer sounds fine on any other channel than this one, it could mean that you have a burned power or output device.
You have to do more investigation than you have to this point. Switching the RCA's around could tell a lot too. It might not be a bad idea to hire a professional if you are getting in over your head.

Currently I am running the front channels at 4ohms and the rear channels at 4ohms but the sub channel is stable at 1 ohm which I will be running it at.

You make a good point by testing out one of the other channels with the subs, I will try that out with a 4 ohm load.

Thanks!
