trd quick shifter and trd knob

Ok so I been running the trd shift know and hate it with a passion love my obx one much better, so here is my question how the hell do you get the obx to fit with the plastic groumet thing to hold the shift boot on I tried turning that thing as far as it could go and still can't get the obx on there. It looks like I may need to cut the black tape stuff to lower the groumet down more to get the obx on, not sure if this is going to work. Anyone done this or have any ideas on the matter. Let me know, and thanks for any replys to the question.

I think you may have confused everyone with the explanation of your problem. Are you referring to the chrome plastic grommet at the top of the shift boot. If so, just take it out and have someone sew the rear of the boot at a sharper angle so the hole is smaller. That's what I did when I installed my short shifter. The shaft is too big for the grommet and the boot was way too big without it. I sewed it up and it looks perfect.

i took the little chrome plastic thingy and turned it upside down, I than took a drill bit (cant remember what size) and made the hole larger, I than replaced the retaining ring and installed it. It looks like it came that way from the factory
