Volume Level on stock audio

Hey sup all. This question just pertains to those of you running the stock audio headunit /speakers....

What is the max volume you guys go up to? I leave my on "Hear" only... and its like everytime I get it up to around 22-24 or so, the front speakers start to rattle?! Any one else having this happen? I don't usually listen to the radio loud at all. I just hope they are not blown!!!

Any input would be great! Thx :lalala:

I doubt if is is a blown speaker, not at that normal playing level. It is just something loose in there, and probably an easy fix, once it is found what is causing it.

first, double check that your ssp is set on xA, then set your bass on minus 2 and treble is on +3 and have your fade set to rear 1. everything should be great with this setup almost to max before any distortion..

the Xa setting isnt all that, its way to trebel-y im not a bass fiend or anything, i pretty much listen to rock but i like the fullness of the xB setting... i agree with koalaty its probably something loose, i noticed also that the radio recption isnt all that, the rattle could be from that, try a store bought cd and see if you still have the same issues

is it a rattle or a popping sound? mine would make some popping when the bass was up too high, but not usually till it was up over the 30 mark. I would play with the Bass and Treble, maybe try the "feel" mode. I changed my ssp to "xB" (it was set on tC) no problems other than that....Good Luck!

with my Ipod hooked up I can go all the way to max with no distortion.

i listen to my xB's radio in xA mode regularly in the 40's. usually like 46 with the windows down sounds good. no distortion for me.

More like a rattling sound.

All the way up?! How far is that considered!?

sprslug_182 05-01-2006 05:43 AM

I have xm plugged into a disc changer adapter. I always listen to everything about 59-61, with it on xA and hear, bass at -5, and treble at 3.

Jugglah 05-01-2006 10:48 AM

20-30 normal
30-50 with windows down

No distortion in either... and it maxes at 63.

hXcdi3hard 05-01-2006 08:12 PM

Have my xB stock radio on feel and also have subs normally turn it up to about 45 about 53 max just so i dont blow the speakers.....

Awesome, just the answer i was lookin for!
thanks!

I agree with dollar5. The xa setting is too mid-high end. I can go to 63 with very little distortion. For me, at most levels, set to xb, feel, bass about +3, -2 towards the rear (gives surround/balanced sound), treble at 0 or -1. If I volume over 50, i change to hear, as that seems to add a little punch, and soften harshness.

I know the speaker covers on the dash rattle alot on mine, that might be the culprit. I regularlly listen to mine at 50 on hear/xa. no pop, rattle, or distortion. My speaker covers rattle when ever I go over rough roads.

I think you are talking about the fresh air inlet grill under the hood rattle. Could not find the link though.

I've got a rattle on the right driver's side door too. Just with bass lines, volume 40+. Took it to the dealer: they told me it was the plastic liner in the door, and showed me the problem. Said they couldn't fix it, though.

Under the entire door panel is a sheet of plastic. I think its a vapor barrier, like on house insulation. Its on top of all the other door components. It's held down by black putty.

When the speaker is cranking low frequencies, this sheet of plastic vibrates like a big ol drum. Lots of buzzing distortion. I've been trying more tape to hold it down.

The service department's answer to this? "Don't play the radio so loud and it should be okay."

Uh, HELLO? "We've built in an awsome sound system - with all the features, gobs of power, it really cranks - just don't use it, okay?"
