What goes btwn RCA outputs on radio & RCA inputs on woof

I am finally ready to put a Clarion SRV 303 powered subwoofer in my xB . Is there anything that gets hooked between the radio and my powered subwoofer or is it a straight connection?

if u r just talking about rca... its from the radio to the amp rca cable

If its an aftermarket radio RCA's straight connection. If its a factory system you would need a Line-out converter.

Exactly what Fhe1079 said.

I just looked up that subwoofer, wow, it looks really cool, let us know how it sounds.

It IS just a straight connection, you won't need any converters of any kind since it has speaker level inputs on it. Just tap into any of your speaker wires. If this sub doesn't come with a bass knob then I would tap into the rear speaker wires so that you could use the fader function of your deck to raise and lower the bass level. :P

If you have an aftermarket deck that has RCA's built in, I would STILL tap into your speaker wires and run them to that sub. You will get better cleaner sound with almost no chance of electrical/engine noise. Forget the RCA's!! You will have better performance with less cost using the speaker wires!!!

Tap off of the front speaker outputs!

I originally used the rears for the sub out-thinking that I could vary the volume by fader and that it wouldn't lessen/interfere with the front volume/quality. I found that the rears are a lot lower output level and *seem* to have a lot less bass info. Perhaps due to the smaller speakers?

Good info, thanks for the input tanakasan!!

I'm guessing we are only talking about the OEM deck. If you have an aftermarket deck, then you could still use the rear speaker outputs to have the benifit of the fader for the sub!!!

tanakasan 12-20-2005 06:17 PM

Yes, talking OEM here.

I did not see a reference to OEM or aftermarket. And yes, you could use the rear fader for sub out in the case of aftermarket.

Thanks for the info guys. it is a OEM radio. I am going to follow tanakasan's advice and tap into the front speaker wires? (anyone good on color codes?} I am going to build a small deck out of plywood to mount the unit under the front passenger seat and keep it above from the heater vent.

If you want actual level control try the following device: http://www.davidnavone.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=N-7V . I would probably utilize the rear speaker outputs and disconnect the rear speakers anyhow. If you listen to a lot of competition sound systems the rear speakers are either absent, playing at a reduced volume, narrow frequency range, or both. Congrats on the sub, let us know how it sounds. finally installed Clarion subwoofer

well i finally put the subwoofer in. i took out the passenger seat and mounted it on the floor there. i made a wood platform about one and a half inches off the floor to give clearance to the rear heater vent. i attached the platform to the raised tunnel between to the two front seat mounting bolts. i sprayed everything flat black to help conceal it. i like the location because the only way you can really see the subwoofer good is if the front seat is pushed all the way forward. looking in the car from outside, there is no reason for someone to break in the car to rip off the subwoofer. also i did not waste any of my storage space in the rear.

as far as the sound...did i get what i want. yes. i did not want to get the bass most younger people want. but i did get bass that rounds out and deepens my sound system. i really love the performance when i put on led zeppelin 1 and crank it up. my wife doesn't like it. but hey, i am the one with the hearing aid.

by the way, i got the zeta arm rest and it is a good idea if you are thinking of it.

muchpeace,
jerry
