I have some nice Philips Audio 6.5" 3 ways and 5.25" component speakers from an old system that I'd like to use in the xB. What locations would be the best to mount them in? I was thinking of using the 5.25" in the front doors with the tweeter in the factory dash location (replacing the OEM tweeters) and using the 6.5" 3 ways in the rear. Does this sound like a winner?

Also, how much mounting depth is there in the rear?

Those would probably work fine. You would need to make your own speaker plates for the 5.25" fronts and the tweets for the dash. You could make some for the rear or get the Scosche adapters if the tweets do not stick up past the surface of the speaker. I'm making my own because the Scosche rear adapters are 1" deep and my tweets and mids on my Pioneer Premier 4 ways extend 5/8" past the speaker surface.

There is probably 3" of backspacing in the rear, more depending on the thickness of your mounting bracket.

Are the boxes actually under your seats or in the back still? I was measuring under the passenger front seat and thought the area was only 9"x9"x___ (something like 3"). I want to do a sub but don't have the money to have a custom box made to replace the floor cubby thing in the back and definitely dont want to loose cargo room.
I have them under the front seats . and my amp is in the cubby in the back.
and there's alot more room under the front seats than 9x9x3 i'll tell u that.

HOW DO YOU INSTALL SPEAKERS???
i mean the wiring and stuff, is it plug and play, is there soldering involved, do I need to pull wires and strip and splice and dice for it to work. I'm thinking of replacing the front two first, what do I do????
You can solder or..... you can crimp on some connectors. i'd say solder just cuz it's more permanent and a better connection. theres a few diagrams floating around here stating which color is positive and which is negative. just search for speaker wiring. colors.

I put 6 1/2 in the doors after you remove the rivets I just cut out the speaker and cleaned up the factory baffle and the speaker just screws onto the baffle. Perfect clearance from the window and don't have to spend extra money on a spacer.

The dash can take any 4' speaker just bend 2 of the tabs and put in and you are good to go there.

The back is alot to take out but can be done with time and a little help from a friend as well as a cold beer or two. You need a 8mm allen wrench to remove the panels in the back.
yep we found that out......

pics of one of my underseat subs. will add the passenger side later.

this box can be found on ebay for like 75 shipped. the sub is an old pioneer impp 10" single voice coil.

I will add pics of the passenger box shortly

Yes these fit well. the drivers side needs some modification like removal of the jack and what holds the jack in , as well as removing a small tab that holds the seatbelt wiring. nothin 15 minutes and a bit of grinder work couldnt fix.

Would there be any great improvement in sound if I just replaced the two 4" dash speakers?

Sorry, but I just like easy mods....afraid to do more .

I put some 4" Infinity loudspeakers in the dash, and they totally blow away all the stock speakers. I am missing one front door speaker currently, and the new 4" ers make it sound so much better than stock, its incredible.

I will look into those too. Would be nice to have a little fuller sound.

I don't think any speakers are "direct bolt in" for the xB. 6.5" fit just fine in the back of the xB with a DIY adapter made of MDF or plywood or go to www.cardomain.com and get you some Scosche SASCN656 adapters. You will have to remove the back seat and rear side panels to gain access to the speakers. Here's a link directly to cardomain.com's site: http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCOSASCN656

The Scosche SAT6 adapters are perfect for the front door speakers too.

Those allen screws actually just hold the cargo net or something. You have to remove the back seat to remove the side panels, which snap on once screws, back seat and seat belts are removed. Search here for how-to's on seat removal. I believe there is a sticky on it too.

so just to check and make sure understand what's being said. The factory door speakers are 6.75". 5.25" speakers will drop right into the doors, while you'd need spacers to put 6.5" speakers in the doors. The rear speakers are 5.25", but you can fit 6.5" speakers back there by cutting the molding and mounting the speakers on the outside of the grill?

correct?
