xB Cargo Bed Conversion
I am thinking of having a little fun but I don't know if it's been done, if it's reasonable, or if I have simply lost my mind.
I love the xB and we've always wanted to get one. So I was thinking, why not combine the idea that I may need a small truck in the future with an xB. No I'm not going to make a xB into a truck, but I was thinking of removing the rear seats and prepping the existing space that remains into a bed arrangement that is flat from the front seats to the back door. I have searched and searched with no luck unless I'm using the wrong search string. Has this been brought up on the board or seen on other sites? |
I've never seen this on the boards, but there's been at least ONE xB that i know of that has done something similar. its not a far off idea. the xB im referring to is a first gen. I dont know if youve seen it, but its the pink boso-zoku xB in so cal. he has a small set up in the back that's essentially a faux floor space. im pretty sure you can find some interior pics, he was featured in import tuner recently. hopefully this helped? let me know if you have any more questions

Yeah that's pretty much what I'm wanting to do but no frills, just build the floor in.

one dude on the forums has a full bamboo floor from behind the front seats and back for a wheelchair, but his name escapes me right now. He will probably chime in right about....NOW!
...... Nothing?... |
nothing :( nice try though...
but chewdog, what exactly were you wondering? can it be done? or whats the best way to do it? |

Yeah I'm curious about how much work is actually involved. I'm not looking at making it a show vehicle so going to the extent that someone who is is unnecessary.

Sent him a message...
I'm just curious how much lower the rear seat and cargo area would be with the seats removed and the spare tire cover removed. I could just as easily move the spare tire to sit right behind the front seats. I've never done anything like this so the idea of drilling new holes to mount a wood floor is all new to me or any modification like that. |

Here is a shot with the spare tire & rear seat removed (but rear seat attachment bar still in) https://i108.photobucket.com/albums/...120800x600.jpg |
I took out my rear seats and built a faux-floor outta MDF..took about 3 days to get it even, and well bolted in, so its sturdier than a mutha..ill get some pics tomorrow, too dark right now
|
While you're at it can you take measurements to get a idea of how much floor to roof and front seats to rear door space there is?
Sounds like you did exactly what I would want to do. |
Alright, well heres the pics, PLEASE excuse the mess..i haven't wrapped the "faux-floor" yet because im still debating if i want the whole back a system..or just cut up to where the seat are than make a little system in the hatch, and also, didnt have time to get the measurements, that will come tomorrow......https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g...9/100_0129.jpghttps://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g...9/100_0131.jpg

BTW, the faux floor thats lower, and right behind the seats is going to become a AMP floor...just havent had the time to finish it..cover the edges and put in the plexiglass tops...but yeah,
|
Looks like you created the floor at the same level as the seats and rear cargo area, right?
I am hoping that it's possible to build a floor as low as the frame of the vehicle. |
^^^^ yes, correct i went even with the beginning of the hatch area.. i was going to do that too, even with the frame..but u will have to cut some metal off, i didnt want to do that.. the seat supoort is like welded to the frame..so i which is why i just went off of that..its maybe like 2 inches up..so when i put the MDF on, it even'd up with the rear if any of that makes sense
|
It does, I'll have to see what the measurements look like because if I can't fit two bikes standing up in the rear area then it's pointless for me to do that. I guess I could have them laying down but would rather be able to have them standing than laying.
|
that looks exactly like my setup in my xa. except I have a hinge on it so I can raise it and store things under there.
|
sweet pics, this helps me.
I am going to be doing this to gothbox soon. I am turning it into a "shop truck" for Driveway Customs and I am going to strip out the back and make a floor that goes from back all the way to the back of the front seats, and throw a tool box or two in there as well. |
