Hey tanabeusa, i didn't cut the strut bump stops in the front, will that present a problem?

Tanabe_USA May 9, 2005 09:18 PM

Hello Prototype_xB

It should not present a problem as long as the roads that you drive are not in poor condition, where large bumps or potholes can cause the suspension to prematurely hit the uncut factory bump stops. While not dangerous, it may cause unecessary discomfort while driving.

Cutting the bump stops is recommended. Cutting them to a proper length will maintain the ability for the bump stop to prevent dampeners from bottoming out, and allow greater travel for the lowered suspension to maintain the best ride quality.

Bump stops are a safety measure on the suspension to prevent the shocks from completely bottoming out. Very deep potholes and large bumps, if taken without caution could potentially cause this.

i installed them today, did any of you use the black plastic coils that your supposed to wrap around the bottom few coils of the rear springs for noise reduction? just wondering cause i didn't, haven't noticed any wierd noise when i tested out the drive today

Handle great for springs, and the drop is impressive for springs. I've taken a few semi-long trips, and its not that bad traveling. Nothing un-expected with a lowered car.

I used a lil' of it on the bottom coil for the front strut springs against the strut to prevent wear and eventual rust on the bottom coil and left the rear alone, then i drove a few days and noticed the folding coils on the rear springs constantly "CLANKING" back together so i went back and installed the damper material and have yet to hear the clanking again.

they should have came with the black plastic looking bumpstops . if not go back and cut your bumpstops unless you like riding on the bumbstops (aka bumpy bouncy ride all over)

aireck Jun 8, 2005 10:04 AM

i had the ones the Tanabes come with and they ripped in half down the side after a few months... i put on my stock bumpstops without cutting them and it works fine .. but i wonder if Tanabe sells them or if they can offer a replacement when this happens?

eXciteBox Jun 10, 2005 06:36 PM

woooooo i got mine in the mail yesterday from ptuning.com. anybody have a pic of how they put the wrap on the springs?

rebelMan Jun 13, 2005 07:02 PM

hmmm maybe i don't hear any of this "clanking" because your xB's weigh more then my echo, i'll have to investigate further.

Tanabe_USA Jun 15, 2005 12:48 AM

aireck --

luckily, we're recently here on scionlife now to see your post! That should never happen under normal driving conditions. Did someone install your springs for you, or did you hit a huge pothole?

We may be able to get replacement bumpstops. Nonetheless, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact us! info@tanabe-usa.com

Thanks xB owners for your tremendous support! We're having a hard time keeping those DF210's in stock!
