Brake wear..
 

Hey guys. I have an xB with 16,000 miles and my 2nd set of brakes has worn down completely I hear like a metal against metal sound. I'm not driving my car anymore. I am so mad at Toyota.
They told me that they would only replace the brakes 1 time for free.. and after that its 169. I am concerned that the car could be a lemon. Is anyone else experiencing brake wear issues??

2 sets in 16,000 mi? Either you are riding the brake pedal or there is something wrong. You may have to contact the Scion corporate office to get this resolved.

Something is definatly wrong.
Do you tow anything with the Scion?
What size wheels do you have?
Do you drive with two feet?Some people drive with two feet and dont relize they are riding the brake wih their left foot.
If you have bigger wheels,it will take more brake pressure to stop that rolling mass of inursha(sp?).
If neither is the case,I would be sure to let Scion Corporate know about it.

i dont tow anything i dont drive with two feet except for the clutch. i have stock wheels. i drive it like anyone else would.

yeah, something is really wrong here, i am still on the first set and i am at 20,000+ miles :shock: please update us on whats going on.

So save the $170 and do it yourself. Even the nonmechanically inclined can do this.

Hey i drive an xA with 13,500 miles on it. I had metal on metal too and they said it ate out the rotor, it cost me $450 to fix but i do have to admit i was driving it hard

With that I would of forced a warrenty cover it because that is just way to early.

Ft pads on toyotas (except for Landcruisers) typically last 45-60 thousand miles on average. The only thing I can think of if you are indeed not riding the brake (and it would have to be significant pressure to wear brakes out that fast) is if the master cylinder is not releasing. The number one cause of this is brake fluid contamination causing the rubber seals to swell and not let the master cylinder fully release when you take your foot off the brake. The most common cause of brake system contamination is someone (usually the 16 year old kid at Jiffy-Lube) adding power steering fluid to the master cylindet to top it off. Some places (not Toyota) have brake fluid and power steering fluid in the same shape and color bottle and it is easy to mistake one for the other. An easy way to tell other than seeing it in the bottom of the master cylinder resevoir is to remove the rubber cap and see if it is swollen. The petroleum based fluid will swell all the Buna-N rubber it comes in contact with including the cap. In time it can migrate down to the proportioning valve and calipers and at that point all seals and master cylinder will have to be replaced and the system flushed. The only other longshot would be a faulty brake booster or brake-assist valve. Not likely. By the way it is not a good idea to top off brake fluid as the system is designed to allow the fluid level to reach the low level and illuminate the BRAKE light at the point that the pads have worn to the wear indicators. If you dont hear the brake squealers (and some don't) then the BRAKE light should keep you from going metal to metal and trashing your rotors. Take care~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`scott

well the brakes are getting replaced right now. so we will see what happens. at this point i am hoping the problem will happen again so i can get a lemon and get rid of this box full of problems. ill keep this updated.

Could this be a reason for poor gas mileage?....mb your brakes are sticking,

mb that is a problem with the xB, service bulletin style? Dude, what kind of mileage u gettin?
