Can a 5gal tank EXPLODE???? (air suspension)

I have my compressor and my 5gal air tank mounted underneath my car near the rear bumper.
If someone rear ended me at 50mph what would happen???
Would the tank explode cause of the compressed air??

if someone hit you @ 50 you have alot more to worry about than that tank

I would not worry since it is on the outside. I knew a contractor who had a 5 gallon tank inside his van and compressor for tool use. When the tank blew out it popped out the windows, blew the doors open and pushed out the fender housings insde the van.body.

you got that right, but it might not "explode"it might just crack and you would have a huge rush of air for a few seconds

Exactly what happens. I had my tank between my frame rails on my Jeep. Came down hard on a big rock and it cracked open.
