Infamous Pop Sound from xBs..
So, been looking on the forum seems like everyone has had this problem and only a few solved it..
I notice a pop sound when I hit "certain" bumps/holes in the ground or when I brake suddenly. When I brake, it hear a pop and it makes me think the stuff holding up my wheel is going to just fall off..
The sound comes from the right-passenger side near the front right tire I believe.
I replaced my struts myself over the weekend thinking that was the problem but it wasn't. I installed and replaced my rear and front shocks/struts and the ride is better but that sound is still there.
I have tried the following:
Tighten the spare tire (some people said this made the noise go away haha)
Re-tightened the 17mm nut on the strut hat, it won't turn anymore.
Re-tighten all the bolts for the strut, they were tight as enough the first time around.
The springs are seated right on the strut so i don't think that's the problem.
I have heard some things such as ball joints, tie rod, wheel bearing.
Where are these on our cars so I can take a look at them and inspect them?

so peep this, i tried to twist the spring in the fronts and it does rotate if i use force.. is that ok???? I'm thinking it's supposed to be imovable... Keep in mind I did jack up the wheel so there wasn't really any weight on it... The problem is, my 17mm bolt is tightened down and about 1 inch of the top of the piston is showing.. isn't that tight enough?

That's what happened to mine after installing my DF210's.
Once I tightened the strut tower 17mm bolt again I've heard no noise at all.
Seems like a common problem let us know if you fix it.

So, the issue is not the 17mm nut like most of found it to be, i believe this is the problem. please advise on if you think it is too.
I notice two places where there are these rubber pieces or whatever, near the tire area as they are cracked look like they are about to come apart. As mentioned the noise sounds like its from the right front tire.
These parts on the left tire look fine, no cracks/aging unlike the right side.
Anyone know how much these parts costs, can I relplace them myself? Should I take it into a shop?

^^^Very easy to replace on your own! These are the sway bar link bushings and spacers. They shouldn't cost that much unless you are gonna replace the links too? You should be able to get a decent quote from Toyota...

I haven't lowered my box or anything but I am getting a clunk in the front end over certain bumps at slow speeds also. These type of sway bar links don't really make noise unless the bushings completely rip and the nut is touching the control arm. Really anything can happen with cars I guess. They should be very cheap and I would guess that 45 mins for both sides would do the trick with basic handtools. Would be a in-expensive worth a shot kinda deal.

the energy suspension bushing mod is by far the BEST pound-for-pound, bang-for-your-buck mod you can get. just do it, even if it doesnt fix your noise...
very easy to install, just a little bit of leg work picking up some extra hardware. you wont spend more than 15 bucks, maybe 20 but i doubt it. find the thread in the tech section.
id say it made as big of a difference as an rsb imo. and for 15 bucks? totally worth it
in the meantime, id go extra slow over bumps and dips until you find out what that noise really is. it might not be anything important, but it wouldnt hurt to be more careful.
