Lowering springs and stock shocks

Hey everyone I wanted to ask some of the long term owners that lowered with just springs how is the ride and mainly how the shocks are holding up. In most cases lowering a car damages the shocks from being compressed near the bottom for a long period of time. That is why short stroke shocks are available. How are the old school XB owners with only lowering springs, OEM shocks holding up? Thanks.

I have an 04 and it has been lowered for about a little over a year, and my shocks never broke but it did ride like crap, I got shorter shocks and struts and it ride a ton better.

Have had my car lowered for over a year on OEM shocks with no ill effects..............

What brand are you guys happy with for short stroke shocks? Is it Monroe's?

I've had TRD springs with stock shocks for over a year and 20K miles with no issues. The ride was a bit stiffer but the handling and look were greatly improved. Also, I just added a rear TRD sway bar a few weeks ago and that improved handling a lot.

Also one last thing for Monroe shocks some people use the 5987 and some said 5870's. I want to get a set of front and rear Monroe's, what are the correct part numbers? Does everyone use the 5870's on all four corners? Thanks

As long as you don't "dump" the ride and drop it more than 2", then you should be all right. I've been driving around on lowered cars for 12 years now and the only time I've ever had to replace my shocks was when I cut my coils on my civic and had it dropped to 3" all the way around.

I've heard of alot of people bvlowing out their struts n shocks with tein stechs.

Really? You'd think that would happen more with the Tanabe DF210s, seeing as how it's a half-inch lower drop. :ponder:

it's the springrate that's the problem, not the lowering. lower spring rate = more travel.

Dropped 2" with the Gold-Lines for a over a year, 20,000 miles or so, and still have the stock shocks...Im on 17's and the ride is awesome......

tein s springs, my ___ hurts every day

hayalex6 07-23-2006 10:45 PM

sucks for you. I'm on H&R race springs. 2" drop, best handling springs, and a great ride.
