Good job so far. My only opinion is that I would rather have a lighter rear brake set up, having such a large rear rotor (especially one thats vented) would be overkill. Just my 2 cents. Either way you got my attention, I can't wait to see the finished project!

I will agree with you, but as I stated before. Everyones looking for a budget brake set-up. I tried to locate as many components I could, that was reasonably priced! I looked at the Miata set-up, and the calipers would cost me as much as Wilwood calipers, so..... This caliper is similar in size as the front caliper on the xB now, except for that bulky parking brake on the back side.

Now an update: I'm gonna stay at work late tonight to see if I can get a couple different "simple" caliper brakets made, so I can be 100% on the placement before going into making another set like last time! After getting the brake cable in hand, and checking out the service manuals, I'm pretty sure I can get it to work. I have to make a small housing for it with a snap ring that will lock it into the caliper, to hold the cable from pulling through it. I'll post some pictures as I get them started/done. My brake rotor people have let me down. I ordered them the 16th and still haven't seen them!!! Looks like I'll be finding someone else to supply those. Can't be waiting for rotors!!!

 

SWEET!!! your getting good progress in a very short time, this makes you and your company look very good!! Your not here for the fun of it, your here to show what you made and as cost effective as possible. I don't mind having big rear rotors, eventually the front ones will be changed, so keep up the good work.!!

 

Well I got the caliper bracket done today. But this E-brake cable is kicking my butt. Don't see it happening now that I have everything in place! Gonna look at a couple more things, then I may have to go a different route all together. So much for the more good news posts.

 

i guess were starting to see why Scion didnt put rotors on the back of the gen 1 xB, it was a pain in the a$$.Good luck!!

i'm down to buy a bracket for any toyota setup.. as long as the caliper and rotor are toyota i'll buy the bracket.

 

Not so much a pain in the A$$, I could have it done by now, but in order to make it a bolt on then you should be able to use the components you have. Like the E-brake cable. I can get a cable made, or cut the swingarm tab, heck even drill a hole through the mounting flange, but just didn't want to do that. So for now, I'm ABOUT to start over with another caliper. I'll keep you all posted with what I end up doing. Sorry to build up everyones hopes to lead to this!!!

We are just where we started from still with drums brakes.....the difference is you have shown you are determined to do this and are keeping in mind what people want. I dont care if it takes more time....I'll still buy one when these are completed.

 

Another update. New calipers on the way, should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. Hopefully have some brackets done by Friday! Then the dreadful E-brake!!

 

That ebrake has been the problem for a lot of people, lol. If the kit is reasonable I will def get one, I've seen your work and know it's quality stuff!

Dont matter if its 17, 18 or 19 or whatever. its the backspace that matters.

 

yeah but toyota/scion has engineers and can design the system as they want it.

 

Try the rear rotor and caliper off of a 1988 toyota corolla gts.

Yes caliper is here, rotor should be here tomorrow. Then I can start over with the brackets!
