I'll be getting my 2006 Scion xB shortly and it's bone-stock. I've been trying to figure out which wheels to throw on the ride and tires to match with it but it's become a huge struggle for me.

I want to leave the box stock for now, other than wheels. I'm trying to make the flush fender look and side-wall size similar to what I had on my 2003 Mustang GT. To provide a visual of what I'm looking for, here are pics of my old mustang which I had 18x9's with 275/35R18's:






I am REALLY struggling to figure out what's the right size. I'm leaning towards 17" wheels, I think they will have a similar side-wall to what I had on my Mustang while keeping close to stock circumference.

What I really need the most help on is the tire size, wheel width, and wheel offset.
1) I want the widest I can put on the box keeping it stock with zero rubbing. What is the widest tire that I can put on the car without rubbing at stock? I believe it's 225, can anyone confirm?
2) Based off of the widest tire, I should be able to select the proper wheel width to give me the same affect as I had on the mustang. If 225 is the widest tire, should I go with a 7.5" wheel to keep the same look as I had on the stang?
3) Based off of the above two answers/responses, what offset will I need to run? I do not want to run a staggered fit. I keep reading that to avoid from having a staggered fit you must run shims/spacers but I really want to avoid that. I'm very confused as to why you must do this as well... a bit strange maybe someone can enlighten me. I didn't have to do it on my mustang.

I guess the very first question I need to figure out the answer to is, what is the widest tire I can put on a stock car with no rubbing? I believe everyone says 215mm is definitely fine, but 225 I've heard both that it's fine and that it can rub (perhaps the offset is what caused this).

I'm hoping to have my xB this week, so I really need to figure out my wheel situation before I'm stuck with hubcaps! =D

well we got all kinds of extreme wheels offsets here.you will have to just pretty much scan around the site to see what size etc they run.They only thing i can confirm is that when i ran a 18x81/2 with a 40 offset was that the inside of my rear wheels were almost hitting this circle thing on the trailing arm that was so close a piece of paper would almost not fit but from the out side i still was not close to the fender so my guess would be you could get a 9 inch wheel in there with id say maybe a 30ish offset to sit allmost flush and not hit the rear trailing arm.Right now i have a 17x8 with i belive to be a 0 offset and i rub with a lightly rolled fender,and the wheel stick out a little.So to be safe i would do a 8 1/2 with a mid 30's offest.If you want pics of my fender gap etc let me know and ill post pics for you.Im running a 205/40/17 tire

ok I think that I'm slowly coming to a conclusion. I think that I'll end up with 17x7 wheels running 215/40R17 tires. The remaining question: What offset should I go with? I have read anywhere between +20 - +40 with +35-+40 being the most common range.

Anyone have any ideas or have links of pics with the exact same setup and the recommended offset?

With an offset of +35 225 width tires with not rub. When we first got the tires we had 15mm spacers on, and they did rub a little.
