I need Snow Tires and Wheels for 2005 Scion xB
Hello everyone!
I really need to get snow tires for my 2005 Scion xB and I'm going to get cheap wheels to put them on.
I was looking at Tire Rack.com and they recommend 14" 185/65-14 tires w/ 14" wheels that are new steel Size: 14X6 Bolt Pattern: 4-100 instead of my stock 15" 185/60-15. Is this a good idea?
Also, does anyone recommend any of the snow tires below and should I get studded? I live in Rochester NY and we get lots of ice and snow and it can be a foot deep at times.
My All Season tires are horrible on snow and ice and slide almost a full car length when Braking and only going 10mph!
Michelin X-Ice Xi2 (Studless Ice & Snow) $96 4.5 Star Review
Bridgestone Blizzak WS60 (Studless Ice & Snow) $87 3.5 Star Review
Firestone Winterforce (Studdable Snow) $69 3.5 Star Review
General Altimax Arctic (Studdable Snow) $66 4 Star Review

"This what is seen on tire rack
14' tire/wheel seems to be ideal with the Tire Rack explanation on the law of Physics of a tire in snow VS the 15" OEM tire/wheel. I guess do what is best for you for $$ + storage space.
Choose current vehicle tire size(s).
If buying only tires, be sure to select the diameter of the wheel currently installed on the vehicle.
Minus Wheel Diameter: 14"
(Smaller wheel diameter than O.E.) Explain 14" Recommended:185/65-14
Original Equipment Wheel Diameter: 15"
15" Recommended:185/60-15
As far as studdless or studded tire, you will need to look up the pro/cons + see what you are comfortable with.
Good Luck + be safe
