Default Offset question for Wheels. Need answer ASAP Thankyou!

I was recommended to come here by someone on scikotics.com because they said this place had the best info for tire size/rimm matching.

I have absolutely fell in love with the Motegi DP1 and already am looking at a set to buy.

According to your wheel guide though the offset is way off.

18X8 with a 28 offset and 225-35- 18 tires is only offset i see and while i realize that is not a complete list the Motegi are quite a bit off

18X8 with a 40 offset 4X100 ET40

I have spent a couple days trying to find that wheel in any other offset but for that size it only comes in that one.

What does the offset actually take into account? I didn't see that explained in the FAQ post at the top of this thread.
Will those wheels fit my xB, and how much modification will i have to do? I really have my heart set on those wheels and I would like 18's. The site im looking at already has a direct fit for 17's but i really wanted them in 18's. If its not just going tobe possible without doing heavy modification then I will settle for the 17's. Also they make them in 20's but i am going to guess that would have major modification needed for it.

If it is possible to get the 18's how low of a tire and high of a tire would i be able to go with them?
for instance 205/35/18 i was thinking for the front and possibly a 205/45 or 50/18 for the rear to give it some stance? Does that make sense?

Any info would be helpful thankyou.

this is the best wheel tire calculator ive ever used.

i think the 18x8 +28 would be a good setup. a 40mm offset would put the rim 22mm closer to suspension/brakes components and most likly just wont fit unless you did some hub spacers. DON'T MESS WITH WHEEL SPACERS, EVER.
on the link put you stock set up on the left (185/65/15-15x6 + 38 ) and put what you want on the right. just keep in mind not all tire sizes exist.

Thank you for that info and its funny you posted that link because that is the site i am thinking of buying them from.

I actually spoke to a salesman there today. he said 'the offset is something that doesn't matter' and when i punch it into that link you gave me it says
Factory:205/40/17 17X7.50ET40
DP1 Setup: 225/40/18 18X8ET40

Suspensionackage is 10 mm (0.4'') closer to suspension/brakes components. Acceptable for most cars.

Fendersackage will stick out 10 mm (0.4'') farther. Acceptable for most cars.

Wheelwells: Will fill out the wheelwell by extra 21 mm. Make sure that you have enough room under the fender. If not, consider lower profiles or smaller rims.

I know the salesguy is trying to make a sale so im weary of believing him after plugging it into the program on that site of getting them.

You mentioned hubspacers. This will be the first time i buy wheels that dont fit exactly to my car so i am new to this what are hubspacers? How much and where can i find them cheap? I will do a little googling on my own to see what i come up with but id like someone to recommend a good hubspacer that wont cause issues if thats what i will end up needing for this to make the 18" ET40 offset work. I am dead set on those wheels, and at LEAST the 18's

I am also looking at possibly 20's. but that would require a lift kit i believe and some other major modification.

Edit: Found some Hubspacers or what i think are hubspacers by TRAK+

They have them in 5mm 15mm and 20mm now this is the part i dont know. Which one do i get? i was going to guess 15 because if my offset is 40 adding the 15mm spacer should bring it down to 25? making it 3mm off the other way but i dont think that will be bad. Is that correct?

Thanks to anyone who is helping me with this

Well I have ended up deciding to go with the 20's

Motegi DP1B 20X7.5X42 4X100's because no spacers are needed
Fenders rolled flat will be needed
and possibly firewall modification and definitley mudflap removal.

Found a tire/Wheel package for under 1600 for those so I am pretty happy with that.
Will post pics once I get them in and mounted and on.

Wanted to lower the car, but without MAJOR modification done i can't do that with the 20's so at this point they will sit stock i guess i will be riding high
