Here is my dilemma I have an 06 xA dropped about 2" on Tanabe df210's. I bought some used from eBay Arceo Wheels 18x7.5 with a +42 offset. They are fitted with 225/40 R18 tires.

The problem is that the tires rub on the inside front and rear. The height is fine.. it's the width that gives me the problem. I dont really know what the rear rubs on. It looks like part of the frame maybe. The front seems to rub on the suspension but not quite as bad. There is no way I can drive the car the way the tires rub. I don't know alot about this sort of stuff but it seems if I could space the wheels to the outside about 1" that my problem would be solved. The only issue with that is I don't think I would have anything left to attach the lugs to

My question is can do ANYTHING that would allow me to keep the wheels??? They look GREAT on my car and I really don't wanna give them up.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!!!

Please be specific with any solutions because I really know nothing about this sort of stuff.

Get some 10mm spacers.

Scibox... I may be wrong but isnt 10mm only 0.3937 inches?

It does not seem like anything under 1" would be enough of a spacer.

The tires have about 2/3 of the tread left on them. I really don't wanna drop a few hundred dollars on tires right now if I can make the wheels work a less expensive way.

The only two differences I see is that the specs above call for a slightly shorter tire 35 as opposed to 40 and that the rear offset is different that the front. I didn't even know it was possibel to order a set of wheels with different offsets. Would I need a larger offset on the rear anyway though?

10mm should be plenty. It should be enough to stop you from rubbing on the rear beam. If that doesn't help, get a wider spacer and longer studs. That should be cheaper than replacing the tires.

I put my old stock lugs on the studs which are just shy of 3/4" and then put on my wheels. Obviously there was not enough stud at that point left to mount my wheels but I was able to see that I still needed just a little more space to avoid rubbing. Maybe not quite 1/4" more but that would give me plenty. Do tjhey make spacers 1" big?

42(front) and 35(rear) are the offsets of the rim. anything that is bigger than a 215/35 tire sticks too far out from the rim. My rims are 18" x 7.5 with a +42 also, but i have 215/35/18 tires and they just barely clear everything, and i have no spacers.

LoL 1 inch spacer would be pretty thick. When you space the wheels out you change the entire geometry of the front suspension certainly (the center steering point of the wheel is altered) and mildly maybe the rear depending on the car. Too much outward movement of the wheel assembly can cause stress on the spindles possibly beyond design capacity. For alot of very good reasons wheel shimming is generally in small amount, less than 1/2 inch.

Your tires are too big. The 225/35/18 used in your reference above is quite a bit smaller than the 225/40/18's you say are on the XB. Clearance is going to be an issue. Spacing front and rear may help. On My XB with 18x7.5 +42 offset and 215/40/18 (one size bigger than the factory 18" tire not 2 like yours), the rear tire was very very close to the rear suspension arm weld (less than 1/16 inch I think) I added 5mm spacers to clear this. I am not lowered yet (springs not here yet). When I drop 2" I see there are a few likely spots to rub. I am glad I don't have tires as big as yours to fit in there.

Try spacers see if you still rub. Then go buy slightly smaller tires and either leave the spacers or throw them out depending on which look you like

Much thanks for all of the advice. I think at this point until I burn off some of the tread left on the 225 tires that came with the wheels.. I will opt for a short term fix and use the 25mm spacers. So now I now have 2 new questions...

Which of these spacers would any of you recommend? Does it matter since they are both hub centric?

And last... when I do decide to shop for new tires... should I go 215 or even smaller at 205 to be sure I am safe?

i have the ichiba 15mm spacers on my xa. install was kind of a pain but i haven't had any problems. just be careful when installing them.

Get H&R TRAK+ 25mm spacers. They're from a reputable company, have new studs, and aren't expensive. get them on www.namotorsports.net

Anything over 10mm and with 2 inches of drop you will be rubbing the outter lip of the wheelwell. You really need the proper size (215/35/1 tires. I had OTG spacers (10mm) and my 215/45/17's rubbed the outter lip with 1.5 inches of drop.

maybe there is something different about the xA then. I have plenty of clearance in the fenders, wheel well, and the outside lip. I think I am gonna take the wheels to a tire shop and just ask them to "make it work" somehow
